Forums - PC Discussion - Wich game will define a new level for pc gaming?

I don't understand much about pc gaming, but it looks like there are "generations" of games that are started with a specific game. I remember people had similar reaction when they first heard the minimum specs for Doom 3 as people did for Crysis, because it was something so far from the reality of the majority of the gamers. I remember that in 2007 2gb ram was considered more than enough for everything, and than Crysis comes out and asks 1..0gb as minimum.

There ain't no such game on the horizon. Or actually Crysis is the game that already defined a new level for at least a couple of more years in PC gaming.

any game that exceeds console's capability.

Crysis probably this time. Shit is so cash.

Who really cares? That seems more about graphical benchmarks, but I just play PC games for the games.

In my opinion, the next game that looks like it's going to 'take PC gaming to the next level' is Star Wars: The Old Republic. And I say that because its trying to do new things for the MMO genre that other MMOs aren't while also being a high budget and highly published game.

Aside from that, most of the other games I see coming out, such as StarCraft II, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Crysis 2, etc, all just seem to be trying to imitate their console counterparts and be 'more of the same'. In other words, not do much to improve from the previous games in their series aside from graphics.

One game that might be bucking this trend aside from Star Wars: The Old Republic is Diablo III. But we'll have to see if that's the case. There's been very little gameplay footage of the game.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I don't think that the coming of a new graphical generation is any more likely on the PC than on the consoles.

Crysis 2, most likely. Crytek have been defining new PC hardware generations since Far Cry back in 2004(?).

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Isn't Direct X 11 a new generation?

I think it will be RAGE, Doom 4 or Crysis 2.

Huh? All of these are made for current generation consoles too, and DX 11 is just some minor graphical upgrade compared to those, definitely not a whole generation superior.
