And PS3 power will see Sony’s console become multi-platform favourite, SCEA claims

With Sony adamant that PS3 is closing the gap on Xbox 360, SCEA has said that third party platform exclusives are going to become increasingly uncommon – something that the platform holder believes will work in its favour.

“We're not going to get the exclusive games – the Mass Effects, Gears of Wars and Left 4 Deads aren't going to happen nearly as often,” senior VP of publisher relations Rob Dyer told IndustryGamers.

“Exclusives just aren't as commonplace as they were during the PS2 days.

“What is going to be the driving force is either exclusive ad campaigns, like the Madden campaign, or exclusive content like we had with Batman. The PS3 version outsold the 360 version, and what we've said to developers is: 'if you take advantage of what the PS3 can deliver – more content on the Blu-ray disc, better graphics, being able to get more of what the player wants onto the disc – you're going to see those sales translate'.

“So what we've been doing is going to publishers and using that as our basic story, and going after exclusive content. You're going to see a lot of that, and for example, you're seeing it now with Dante's Inferno. EA had the collector's edition only on PS3. They filled up that Blu-ray disc and were able to do a lot more that they couldn't with 360.

“The consumer is starting to understand that – there's a lot of cross-ownership between PS3 and 360, and so we're now trying to differentiate that and give that consumer a reason to buy the PS3 version instead of the 360 version.”

This statement  only applies to 3rd party exclusives. Like Munkeh111 said.

edit i think this was already posted.

Aha, so that's why the new Madden is seeing higher PS3 pre-orders.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

So EA just gave the PS3 the collector's edition of Dante's Inferno out of the kindness of their heart? Yeah I'm sure...

Again, this guy shot his credibility when he said the PS3 was going to pass the 360 in the US.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Well then Sony should really be getting their fingers out and start to advertise FFXIII on the PS3 then! I mean i know the game is already associated with the console but advertising can't hurt

that's an interesting comment.  i wonder if they have any data on that and what the actual number is.

Well they could do it pretty easily with all the extra space available on blu-ray. On 360, they might've needed an extra disc which meant more royalty to pay.

The OP should probably make it more clear that he means 3rd party exclusives, not exclusives all together

Oh boy! Exclusive ad campaigns! Yippee!

I do wonder what the crossover ownership is. I bet it's huge this generation.

Maybe not on Sony's console but the Wii still has a crap ton of exclusives and will continue to get a crap ton.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."
