WHen you go to a site like IGN, Gamespot, Gametrailers, etc... the score you see is just one persons opinion on the game. When these site's GoTY awards are done they aren't necessarily done based on that one reviewers opinion but rather the collective opinion of the entire staff, this is why you see lower scoring games winning out in some GoTY contests.

So while the reviewer may have seen 9.5 for Uncharted and another seeing a 9.0 for Demon's Souls, as a collective group it ended up being the opposite, with more of the staff thinking Demon's Souls was the better title. This can easily hold true this year as well.

Just remember this before declaring auto GoTY award winners.

The only one that may be guaranteed is the Metacritic one since it is only based on the scores shown and not a collective opinion of an entire site's/magazine's editorial staff.

Some of what he says is true of course, though saying Rare releases very little is an exaggeration, and it is all a bit over the top
