Forums - Sony Discussion - Microsoft Desperately Marketing FFXIII Sony Playing Their Cards Right.

Everyone knows this game is on PS3, MS is just trying to make people aware that its on 360 as well.

It feels like a late port IMO.

Only desperate ones are those who are so affected by this act they feel the need to whine and complain...every company has dirt on them and every human being here probably does as well, anyone that feels MSFT has done a grave sin against the world because of this commercial is a self righteous prick.

@LordChris I believe you are talking about the general public and not just the American public, unless you believe that your politics degree somehow ties into our marketing which I'm pretty sure is a business thing as I have 3 business Majors friends =P

If you were Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo you would probably have the lowest selling console whichever company you were directing.

Btw the insult on the American public is not cool.

That was not an insult, simply an observation.

Secondly, you have given no evidence to back up your claims

An observation huh? An ignorant observation, yes.

Microsoft didn't keep 2nd place with a more profitable console by being stupid for this long... obviously they know more than you about where best to spend their own money.

I never said they were stupid, simply that this particular decision was not the best they could have made and that their general business plan (though fine as it is) could be improved.

Also, please do not try to turn an honest observation into some kind of attack on the American people, I have many friends in America and a few American friends here in the UK, I do not think Americans are stupid, I do however, know for a fact that they are (as I said before) generally misinformed and easily lead by the media!

I am a student of American politics so please do not try to tell me otherwise!

Generally misinformed and easily led by the media? Well by golly you can say that generalisation about almost any place. Only you had to say that about Americans because... ? Honestly there are people with dark coloured skin, honestly there are ignorant people everywhere and yet I would rather be ignorant than arogant in telling these people how they ought to think or live their lives.

Tease.

The OP is probably the only one on VG chartz who had the balls to question MS's tatics. Although, I don't agree with "People don't want to get up and switch discs" or something like that

You seem to be confusing balls with lack of brains.  There was nothing ballsy about the post, just typical uninformed internet opinion driven by fundamental lack of comprehension of strategy.

The internet is at a buzz once again due to the recent Final Fantasy XIII TV spot making an appearance during the NBA’s recent All-Star event displaying only the Xbox 360 version of the title. Many argue that Square Enix is abandoning Final Fantasy’s roots as a PlayStation exclusive series while abandoning their loyal fans. I find the whole situation to be very ironic and a sign of desperation. In all honesty who didn’t anticipate an Xbox 360 exclusive TV spot for this title? Microsoft knows that main Final Fantasy series is synonymous with PlayStation; which is why Sony could care-less about Final Fantasy XIII going multiplatform and being marketed on Microsoft’s platform.

As much as I love my Xbox 360 I question Microsoft’s “money to blow logic”. We’ve seen a ridiculous amount of money wasted and shoveled at publishers for things like timed and marketing exclusivity; Final Fantasy XIII is another example of this. Just recently the long rumored GTA IV Episodes of Liberty City was officially announced to be coming to the PlayStation 3 after Microsoft’s $50 million dollar timed exclusivity deal with Rockstar expired. Fallout 3 underwent the same treatment as in October of last year the GOTY edition of the title released on both platforms featuring all the current DLC available. There is one question the Microsoft camp should be asking themselves, was it worth handing money to publishers for limited exclusivity rather than investing in their own titles?

Those who look at FFXIII from Sony’s perspective shouldn’t care one bit about Microsoft’s desperate marketing. For one, God of War 3 releases no less than a week after that title; if Sony were to market that game as much Microsoft probably will they would be competing with themselves. Pretty much every enthusiastic Final Fantasy fan will purchase XIII on the PlayStation 3 regardless of it appearing on other platforms. The capacity of Blu-Ray relieves the hassle of having to deal with the tedious disc swapping of 360’s FFXIII. Its 2010 nobody wants to get out of their seat to switch a DVD because the game can’t fit on 1 disc, we dealt with disc swapping 10 years ago via Final Fantasy 7.

Xbox 360’s demographic doesn’t find much interest in JRPGs, we have seen plenty of these titles come and go on 360. Outside Japan these JRPGs being hugely successful on a Microsoft platform is wishful thinking. It would be much easier and far less expensive for Microsoft to just stick to their niche titles and cater to their crowd. What possible satisfaction is Microsoft getting with FFXIII when no one cares about it? They seem to tout games that are no longer exclusive to PlayStation 3 like an accomplishment so they can present themselves to Sony with a chip on their shoulder.

I question Microsoft’s rationality though I’m sure the publishers like Square Enix love the green that is thrown their way. In the end Sony is playing their cards right, they still have FFXIII releasing on their platform along with other blockbuster exclusives like God of War 3 and MLB 10 The Show releasing in March. Thank Microsoft for marketing FFXIII for Sony.

I wouldn't quite go as far as to say its tedious. Lets say the game hypothetically is 60 hrs. How many discs is the game on the 360? 4 Discs? So hypothetically you have to get up every 15 hours to switch discs. You have to get up out of your seat once every 15 hours. So you want to beat this game in 1 week? You have to get up to switch discs once every 3 days.

So please no more of the ridiculous disc swapping complaints.

And believe it or not some people may not realize FFXIII is releasing on the 360. Nothing wrong to advertise it as their game. I saw Sony doing this exact same thing with Assassin's Creed.

It doesn't matter about 360 demographics that much, it's also about the future, about the new customers abdout the Xbox brand over the next several gens. MS is spending top dollar DISASSOCIATING games such as GTA and FF from the PS brand. It has paid off before and I believe it will pay off into the future.

These bitter fanboy tears just proves MS right.

Let's watch it again!

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Not this again. Everything you've stated has been mentioned 1000000Xs in Vgchartz. Get your PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII, and I'll get my Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII. It's a wrap now lol.

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"
