what i don't understand is why MS is trying to push this game so hard when they have the inferior version that exploits the weaknesses of their console in comparison to the other console with the superior version of this game.

And oddly enough both Assassins Creed II and Modern Warfare 2 have sold better on the 360. So its likely that whatever the ads say/show, FF13 will sell better on the PS3

If you were only to focus on (primarily) the main games, I suppose you could consider FF a Sony franchise, but since you said franchise, you need to look at all the other games. FF based games have appeared on: PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, Gameboy, GBA, DS, NES, SNES, Gamecube, Wii, 360, PC, PSN, XBLA, Wiiware, MSX2, Wonderswan Color and various mobile phone platforms. With the exception of the NES, SNES, Gameboy and MSX2, FF games have appears on all these other platforms since the main series appeared on the PS1.

Squareenix has hardly limited the FF franchise to Sony (or any other) platforms.

As much as this bundle gets flak, it's a great way to "jump in" if you want an Xbox 360.

120 GB Elite + FF13 = $360
vs.
250 GB Elite + FF13 + extra controller = $400

And since apparently the MW2 limited edition bundle is discontinued (at least telling from amazon.com and bestbuy.com), the FF13 bundle is your only option for the sweet 250 GB bundle. It'll boost FF13 sales on the 360 for sure. It's an excellent bundle. Shame that there is no special design on the console and only some places include the faceplate.
