Why did you buy your Nintendo Wii?

Brand loyalty 73 27.65%

Motion controls 50 18.94%

Exclusives 102 38.64%

Virtual Console 8 3.03%

Casual/Expanded audience 6 2.27%

Other (specify) 25 9.47%

Total:264

in 2007 I was still a full blown Nintendo fanboy since I grew up with them.

However today if I had a choice what to buy first...PS3 and then a wii.
I still think it's a good console with many great games Just that PS3 also has great games I have interest in plus has more media functions.

There should be an option for "It was the cheapest console" which I'm betting would be the most popular option if you asked everyone who owns a wii why they bought it.

Eh, the X360 is cheaper. The longer this gen goes on, the less this seems to ring true.

Anyway, my main reason is definitely the local multiplayer games. Nintendo has always had the best local multiplayer (though the GC wasn't so hot). Stuff like brand loyalty, exclusives, or motion controls are either related or a result of this. The Wii's whole focus on fun tends to do its job better when involving more than one person in the room.

Of course, Zelda and other single player games are a major factor as well, but since I feel the HD consoles generally match this, it's not as big a deal (or at least, not the reason it's my preferred console).

You do know the 360 wasn't always the cheaper console correct?

Not surprising some would take the price issue outside of the context under which they bought X console.

For almost 3 years, it would have been a bargain to pay only $250 retail for a Wii thanks to short supplies, price gouging/forced bundles and scalpers.

Exclusives.... more precisely... Nintendo games

Uh, yeah? See the sentence after it?

I just don't think most people bought it simply due to its price, that seems kind of silly. I'd say the same about the cheaper DS vs the PSP.

greenmedic88 made a good point as well.

First party exclusives and motion controls.

I didn't. My girlfriend got it for me for my birthday.

Wanted one though because the Wii was doing a lot of cool new stuff.

For someone like me... new design decisions and new forms of gameplay are stuff i've got to play.

Well since there is an "Other (please specify)" option for this poll, and since that option isn't overwhelmingly chosen, nor the most common "specified" comment, then I'm gonna go with you're 100% wrong here, since the option is there to pick price if you so choose.
