Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A way to put HD games on the current Wii....

Does the casual crowd really want DirectX9 or 10 HD graphics?
Do they wanna exercise and bowl in 720p, instead of 480i?
Can they even tell the difference?

Nintendo asked themselves these questions a while ago and the answer came back no three times. If you no know nothing else about Nintendo know this, their main aim is to make money, our happiness is a bi-product and the only time they spend money is when they have to.

How would you connect this stuff to the motherboard? USB with its puny bandwidth?

It's not the SNES era anymore when cartridges had almost direct access to the hardware...

This post is pretty much spot on. It's just not feasible and even if it was, I don't think most of the Wii audience would care.

All i want to know is whether current HD games like MW2 can be ported to the current wii in their entirety (even if it will be in 2 discs) of course with reduced graphics.

My thread for teaching VGC some Nigerian slangs

they will add a hardware upscaler. bundle wii motion plus, and HDMI cable. s

the wii as it's now it's not capable or really outputting  720p, u know even the 360 manage to do that all the time because of 10mb (512mb shared ram) isn't enough for a 720p

it's not a easy "accesory" upgrade, it will require abit more than adding ram, like they did with n64.

most of the games can't  be ported to the wii without making them from zero. ie making them again, having wii capabalities in mind.

AMD/ATI does have a external graphics card available for laptops so I wouldn't say such an idea is completely impossible.

Edited due to me misreading the connector method.

The problem is see in this is cost.
Wii plus add-on is greater than PS3 or Xbox 360.

And given that most people have not maxed-out the Wii's capabilities, this is not really even necessary at this point, IMHO.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Interesting but:

"the connector (....) providing 4 GBytes/s bandwidth to support ATI Radeon™ graphics cards to enable you to run the most demanding graphics applications."

"USB 2.0 connector enables attachment of TV Tuners, Blu-ray drives and more"

I don't think the USB has anything to do with the main functionality.

its actually express card or it evolved notebook version, USB 2.0 doesn't have enough to feed such gpus..

There's no real point to it, we still want Metroid, Zelda and Mario on the Wii as it is, people are really way too infatuated with "hd graphics" :/. Most Hd games don't have anything to show except just that but people still think it's enough.

to tell the truth it's kind of insulting :P.

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.

Or ... Publishers could just recognize the popularity of the Wii and design some games around the Wii running at 480p @30fps, and then release versions with higher detailed models and textures that run at 720p @60fps on the HD consoles. Its really not a revolutionary problem being that (for years) PC game developers have produced games that targeted the systems the typical user owned, while providing enhanced visuals for PCs that were only owned by a handful of people (or that weren’t even available yet).

Consider a game like Half-Life 2 which ran on the original XBox, and yet it takes a system similar to the XBox 360/PS3 to play at its full detail, at a high resolution, with a constant frame rate at or above 60fps.
