Let it be an official launch of Demon's Souls to the rest of the world first please. It's completely arse that a GOTY-worthy game is denied (or at least made difficult to obtain) to so many gamers.

Once that happpens then I'll cheer for Demons' Souls 2 (but only if the put they apostrophe in the right place this time, or just drop the "s" altogether, 'Demon Souls' works just fine).

I thought both variants were accepted in English. "The Demon's Souls" - one demon who has several souls, isn't that correct?

Actually the title makes a lot of sense if you take in the context of the entire game. It's not meant as the souls of the demons per se, but as you, the collector of demon's souls, or to the old one, the creator of the demon's souls.

Demon's Souls is the best game I have played this generation (by FAR) and one of my favorites of all time.

Please be true, I will donate my roomates right kidney if it will help make this a reality! Even if it is not Demon's Souls (and how could it not be??) I will still donate one of his kidneys (left tho).

Game of the generation deserves a sequel :)

I bet you guys that if this is true, it will release when the "Arc" comes out. I mean look at the demo they played on E3, and now this rumor of Demon's Souls releasing in Fall 2010 now which is the same time period "Arc" is releasing.

Well I really hope it does, if not I'm still happy.

I truly hope this is NOT the case.

's is only correct if it's one demon and 2 or more souls, but in the game there are a multitude of demons each with one soul to collect. Maybe the boss demons have more than one soul? I don't know because the game isn't available here. Anyway regardless of the number of souls boss demons have its multple demons and multiple souls; therefore s'.

In any situation where it's more than one demon and the word is being used in the possessive sense then it's s'. If Demons is only being used in the plural form with no possessive element then having an apostrophe at all is an even bigger grammatical crime than putting it in the wrong place when one is required. If the prhase is only meant to refer to the plural with no possessive element then the correct form is "Demon souls" you don't pluralise both words (you pluralise souls because what your talking about is a whole bunch of souls, all of which happen to be of demon origin).

@ Lestadark: in both your examples Demons' is still the correct way of writing it, in both cases it's more than one demon so it's using 'Demon' in a plural-possessive sense.

You're always on less shaky grammatical ground if you try to avoid apostrophes. Hence "Demon Souls" is both a correct title, being descriptive of what the game is about, and isn't open to grammatical criticism.

@lestatdark

Only downside to "class = stat caps" is that it requires really precise item and weapon generation.

For example, in Diablo they did this. There were 3 classes. All classes could equip all weapons and could learn all spells (much like demon's souls). The downside was, with the exception of......2 weapons (I think), every weapon and armor (the items that required lots of strength to wield) could be wielded by the Sorcerer who was the class with the lowest stat cap for strength.

Thus, if I were playing the Warrior (high str cap) and someone else was playing the sorcerer, we could wear the exact same sword and armor, etc. Granted, the warrior would do slightly more damage per hit, but the sorcerer also had more mana, more powerful spells and even more life (if you used mana shield!).

There was NO advantage in that game to playing the warrior, ever. So, everyone was a sorcerer. Granted, different weapons, etc. would have made this not a problem, but it's a hard balance. I much prefered diablo 2's approach of

1) Each class gets more damage/mana/life/whatever based on a stat. Barbarians gets 1 mana per point in energy, sorceresses get 4 mana.
2) Class specific items.
3) Class specific skills.

#3 above might make people sad, but honestly, with the right selection of skills, I literally played Diablo II from 2000 (when it was released) until late 2008. I'd be happy with #1 and #2 though.

The title is fine. It refers the Old One's quest for souls. He is the demon in reference, and he's looking to possess the souls of all.

Also, the class system is fine.  It's open ended to allow any player to go in any direction he chooses, becoming a mix of whatever playstyles he so wishes, yet it still gives you some initial direction through the various class options, giving you an initial prod in the right direction.  If everybody started with the same stats, it's inevitable people would find an optimal way to progress (don't start with magic!  it's so much easier if you focus on strength first!), thus detering players from going in other directions due to the inherent nature of the game.

The online system is also fine, as it has effectively made an MMO feel like a singleplayer experience. And honestly, would the game be near as scary without the fear of a black phantom invading your world and shanking you in the back ON TOP OF everythign else they're already throwing at you?  :D

Who cares, first game sucked.

Please rename it to angels souls... please...
