Forums - Gaming Discussion - *Developer Or Publisher?*

Who do you count as the one who made the game?

I always counted and looked at the publisher as the one who made the game. I don't give the developers any credit at all not even a tiny bit. For example:(I am a Nintendo fan so I am giving Nintendo game examples)

In my opinion Retro didn't make Metroid Prime 3 Corruption Nintendo did. Rare didn't make Banjo-Kazooie(1) Nintendo did. H.V.S didn't make The Conduit or Tournament of Legends Sega did. I NEVER count or look at who developed the game I look at the publisher. I won't buy any game published by Square Enix and I don't even pay attention to who developed it. Some unknown developer that I don't even know could make a game and a publisher that I like could publish it and I would still consider buying it. So...

Do you give the developer credit and if you like a developer will you buy a game by them and it doesn't matter who the publisher is? or are you like me and doesn't even look or care about who developed it?

In my opinion the publisher has the ultimate say on what goes in a game and can change whatever they want in it so I count them as making the game.

The Developper gets credit in my book

Punch-Out for example is made by Next Level Games (Canadians btw)

KOTOR was made by Bioware not Lucas Arts

Developer gets the most credit out of the two.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

The Developer of course.
Some publishers don't do anything aside from publish the game anyway.

dev for effort. Pub for calling the shots.

Dev gets total credit

To me, it depends on who owns/originated the IP.

Nintendo owns/originated Punch Out and contracted with Next Level to deliver the product it wanted. Nintendo's game.

HVS designs and shops its own games -- like the Conduit. Sega published it, but HVS is still who gets most credit.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Why don't you give the developer any credit?

I give the developer the lion's share of it.

Developer... No question about it

See I give all of the credit to Nintendo and count it as a Nintendo made game.(Punch-Out)

Another example: I count Sony as making LittleBigPlanet.
