Forums - Sales Discussion - Why PS3 is selling well in Europe.

Shane said: PS2 has 80% of Europe and Japan. Microsoft's got a slight edge on Nintendo in Europe, while despite all the talk of how much Xbox failed in Japan, Gamecube was only twice as successful as it, but at the end of the day, both ultimately ended up with Sony's scraps. Sony looks to have a bit more of a fight on its hands to reclaim Japan, but I'd be surprised if they don't jump over Wii in Europe this year.
Gamecube (as of september 2006) sold 4 Million systems in Japan where the XBox sold 0.5 Million systems ... That is 8 times as popular in Japan ...

No one is arguing that PS2 owned the last generation of consoles.. the PS2 blew away everything in every single market. But it's 2007, the new consoles are out and PS3 is sucking balls in all continents. Every hard core PS2 owner probably went out on launch day and bought the PS3. And there's lots of those... for example about 600k in Europe. Now pretending that the PS3 will outsell the Wii this year is europe is absolutly absurd... Actually, I just realized how out of touch you probably are and my post is pointless..

Not correct according to vgchart's numbers. Gamecube had 15% marketshare, Xbox had just 1-2%. GC hardware outsold XB hardware 1:8 and GC software outsold XB software 1:16.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

1. PS2 has a huge portion of Japan and Europe, not PS3. Big difference. And you say Sony, not PS2, so that's why I also spoke of PSP compared to DS. 2. GCN only twice as successful as XB in Japan? Umm, no, that is completely false. Here are the real numbers: http://www.vgcharts.org/worldcons.php Japan: GCN = 4.02 million, XB 0.53 million So GCN was roughly 8 times as successful as XB in Japan, not twice as successful.

SSBB Friend Code = 5455-9050-8670 (PM me if you add so I can add you!)

Tetris Party Friend Code = 116129046416 (ditto)

Something amiss about those numbers, unless Microsoft just has a seriously heavy presence in South Korea or elsewhere in Asia. There's not a difference between PS2 and PS3 until we get proof to suggest it (a few months isn't proof). Nintendo owns the portable industry and always has. It's slipped some, but either way it's not particularly relevant to their position in the console industry, nor has it ever been.

Now if you cross that list with games which have been well reviewed (90% or higher on Gamerankings.com) you get: USA: - Sony Studio Santa Monica : God of War - Naughty Dog : Jak and Daxter - Insomniac : Rachet and Clank Japan: - Polyphony Digital : Gran Turismo 3 As everyone has always said, the Playstation brand has always sold based on the strength of its third party support; if it loses third party support it is not that strong of a platform.
Umm....You were wrong about almost all of these. God of War is a PS2 GAME and sold well more than 1 million copies. The Getaway was a PS2 GAME and also sold well more than 1 million copies. Socom was a PS2 GAME and also sold well more than 1 million copies. Jak and Dexter was a PS2 GAME and also sold well more than 1 million copies. Ratchet and Clank was a PS2 GAME and also sold well more than 1 million copies. Eye Toy was a PS2 GAME and also sold well more than 1 million copies. Gran Turismo 3 was a PS2 GAME and sold 15 million copies world wide, more than any other individual game last gen including the likes of GTA and Halo. In fact, the only game you mentioned that used to be on PS1 was Twisted Metal. None of these games were on the PS1 mentioned above. Twisted Metal Black, Sly Cooper, ATV, and also Everybodys Golf are also titles selling more than 1 million copies. I can name two new ones as well that will also be selling more than 1 million copies and that is Resistance Fall of Man (which already sold more than 1 million copies) and also Motorstorm, which will probably sell more than 1 million copies.
