Forums - Sales Discussion - Why PS3 is selling well in Europe.

Erik Aston said: The "this is living" ads are awful. FAR worse than the white room ads in NA. I'm not sure how a girl sitting on the toilet saying "this is living" has anything to do with videogames. I was trying to figure out if it was somehow a play off the "Live in your world. Play in Ours." slogan, but I gave up.
Perhaps you have to work in the advertisment industry to understand it. Or should we say they believe they understand it

Yeah the "this is living" ads are bad. Like the one where the guy is play spin the bottle with what looks like a hooker. I'm like, this is living? And the guy staring at the camera, saying it too, I really don't get them. What is a great ad is Microsoft's Vista ad, where people are all seeing great things happening, and they say, "wow." It's almost inspiring, then of course you see Vista and you laugh at it. Check it out:Vista WoW ad.

So the situation in Europe could be different from country to country and there's no way to know for sure whether demand in the whole of Europe is smaller or bigger than in Japan or the US. haha I live in holland 2, dont know where u have been but in most store there are still a couple standing.
I live near The Hague. Anyway, it's not like I've been looking for one and been checking stores constantly, but whenever I checked a store to see if they had any in stock they were sold out.

Nintendo sells a lifestyle. Nintendo's commercials not only show the gameplay, but they sell a lifestyle. Their commercials show people having fun together with other people. Sony is trying to sell a console, which simply means nothing to a large segment of the population. Their commercials almost seem isolated, anti-social, cold.

ANswer: because of Brand of psOne and PS2. both consoles had best games, so and ps3 will have best and exclusive game in this generation. moreover, after this spring ps3 will get better and better multiplatform games, with better graphics compared to xbox360.

Allow me to change that for you:
ANswer: because of Brand of NES and SNES. both consoles had best games, so and N64 will have best and exclusive game in this generation. moreover, after this spring N64 will get better and better multiplatform games, with better graphics compared to Playstation and Saturn.
See how it works? Brand is pretty meaningless unless your consumers buy into it. The only performance a publicly trade third party publisher (read: most large third party publishers) care about sales performance because they're only interested in making a profit, and the decision to release a game to the system with the largest userbase is defendable if shareholders question it. The PS3 has to sell like it is the best system inorder to become the best system ... Why is this so hard to understand?

First, lets eliminate games which have not sold more than 1 Million units worldwide and were not released for the PS2: USA: - Sony Studio Santa Monica : God of War - Incognito (SCEA Studio Santa Monica) : Twisted Metal - Naughty Dog : Jak and Daxter - Insomniac : Rachet and Clank - Zipper Interactive : SOCOM : US Navy SEALs Europe: - Sony Studio London: (Studio Soho, Studio Camden) : Eye-toy games, The getaway Japan: - Polyphony Digital : Gran Turismo 3 - Clap Hanz : Hot Shots Golf As you notice, the list of studios with games people actually care about is pretty small for Sony ... Now if you cross that list with games which have been well reviewed (90% or higher on Gamerankings.com) you get: USA: - Sony Studio Santa Monica : God of War - Naughty Dog : Jak and Daxter - Insomniac : Rachet and Clank Japan: - Polyphony Digital : Gran Turismo 3 As everyone has always said, the Playstation brand has always sold based on the strength of its third party support; if it loses third party support it is not that strong of a platform.

Another thing is if you don't own a 360 your not going to play Forza2, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyessy, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Halo Wars... If you don't own a Wii your not going to get Super Smash Bros., Mario Galaxy, Metroid 3, Animal Crossing, Mario & Sonic Olympics, and on and on and on. Every system has solid first party offerings so it's pointless throwing out names. What you want to throw out there is sequals to very big franchises that will generate huge buzz, and perhaps even more important something that will come out soon. Nintendo and Microsoft big guns are coming out this year. Allot of Sonys aren't. Like bringing up the God of War team is silly because they just finished God's of War 2 for the ps2, I don't imagine them having a new title too soon. Secondly when you look at Sony's release list people are definitly more excited about the 3rd party titles then the first party titles. Compare: drake's fortune, Lair, Heveanly Sword, GT vs. MGS4, FF, Monster Hunter Sony really should of had at least one big sequal out for launch.
