Be Honest: Why Do You Think Switch is a Sales Success Right Now?

in Nintendo Discussion on 18 September 2017

    1. The games It opened with Breath of the Wild, a 21st-century take on Zelda 1, and it was a revelation.  Splatoon 2 was a follow-up to Nintendo's first big new IP in a while, and it showed it had enough content to be a full sequel.  Super Mario Odyssey both hearkens back to beloved 3D Mario games and breaks new ground.  The indie games have been numerous and quite clever, filling...

Will there be a 3rd version for Pokemon X/Y for the new 3DS? (Thread 2..)

in Nintendo Discussion on 29 August 2014

I'm not entirely sure there is even going to be a third version. Sure, there's a precedent for it, but Black and White having direct sequels rather than a third version makes me wonder if Nintendo's shifting its strategy for that series. Assuming there is a third version, like other posters have said, it will probably just have exclusive features for New 3DS while being compatible with the...

    2014 YEAR OF Metroid

in Nintendo Discussion on 26 December 2013

I concur with people saying that it looks more like it will be the year of Yoshi. Two full games, Sonic Lost World dlc, and an almost-certain confirmation in Smash Bros are enough to convince me that's where the promotion will go. Still, I do want that Metroid pin on Reggie's suit to mean something. . ....

Emily Rogers: “Wii U Owners Better Buy Ubisoft Games”

in Nintendo Discussion on 28 September 2013

I want Nintendo to succeed, but I'm going to buy what I think are the best games on the platform regardless of publisher. If Ubisoft publishes most of those purchased games, then it sounds like everyone wins. Still, it's ridiculous that Nintendo console owners are the only ones that have to "earn" third-party titles....

Naughty Dog feels triple-A developers could learn a thing or two from indies

in Gaming Discussion on 14 September 2013

I don't know about narrative and character tropes, but I do think that AAA developers' design and gameplay could take a page from indies. Like when limited hardware forced creative design out of developers in times past, limited budgets do the same to indies today. It would be nice if AAA devs cared more about finding a unique gameplay hook and less about particle effects....

Nintendo's WII -U will win the Holiday Season and the Next Gen IF

in Nintendo Discussion on 07 September 2013

Dropping the price of the Wii U any further this year would do Nintendo no good. Their proposition this holiday is an 8th gen system and a game (and a guaranteed good one if you get the Wind Waker HD bundle) for $100 less than the next cheapest console by itself. That's a pretty good value, and they're unlikely to get many more customers that they wouldn't already if they chopped off another...

Is Nintendo the only one coming with really unique gaming soundtracks?

in Gaming Discussion on 03 August 2013

Concerning first parties, I would say that Nintendo wins hands-down, both in variety and memorability. I wouldn't go so far as to say they're the only ones creating unique soundtracks though. I found Journey's music quite moving and I personally think the Halo series as strong as ever with its soundtracks. Third parties have good stuff too. I've particularly enjoyed what the composers of...

“Why Would We Want To Play as Zelda?” Part 1: Minor Characters of Legend

in Nintendo Discussion on 03 August 2013

The article is certainly right about one thing: "The Legend of Zelda" is a heavily gameplay-driven series. If they gave Zelda a bigger role, even that of the PC, without sacrificing the "use a combination of items and abilities to solve puzzles and kill things" gameplay, I'd be OK with it. But if it means becoming a different game entirely? no thanks....

Is the Wii U a failure in concept or execution?

in Nintendo Discussion on 24 July 2013

It's definitely a matter of execution to me, since the Wii U's concept is actually quite good, especially when compared to the 3DS. The 3DS is built around its 3D effect, and while it does add to a game's visuals (at least for those whose eyes aren't irritated by 3D), it's only real gameplay contribution is helping the player judge depth in 3D platformers. I would argue its increased power over...

Super Mario 3D World won’t have online multiplayer

in Nintendo Discussion on 16 June 2013

Wow, I hadn't even thought about online multiplayer until this thread brought it up; I guess I never expected it. I suppose I take for granted that I've got a gang of friends that are willing to play the NSMB games where I live. It would have been a nice feature for those that don't....

Is it finally time Military Shooters ditch their Single Players?

in Gaming Discussion on 02 April 2013

For one thing, like Zekkyou said, it's really hard to hype a mainstream military FPS without single player. CoD just wouldn't make nearly the splash at E3 if the guys on stage just showed us a quick game of deathmatch. Also, the campaign can be really enjoyable, even though the story isn't Shakespeare. I still remember how riveted I was during the SP of CoD4, and I don't think any military...
