New Post. I didn't think you would listen to that haha. There's no one like her really.

No, I agree, I think Toriyama is a generally poor writer especially dialogue. Though he has some good ideas. He uses plot devices like "paradox" as an out when he can't put it quite together. I can see how some people absolutely hate it. I'd probably get in trouble with some people for this. But his story's generally remind me of FF5's. Obsurd, but still fun (for me).

I do however, love love the gameplay his games have had X,X-2,Revenant Wings, XIII (though this was too bare bones). I'd prefer he didn't write for the games he directs.

Do you know who wrote 9? The dialogue, the first 20 hours is amazing, 4 or 5, of the main characters are my favorites in FF. I just had other issues with that game.

I have heard, by people that criticized 13-2 story, that Type-0's story is really good (not toriyama).

sorry my post is so ugly. idk what happened.

    on 30 January 2012

Well i'm not sure who wrote FF9. but i'm quite sure Sakaguchi had a lot to do with it. i thought the game was generally very good until the end part with a villain who shows up in the last 30 mins, lol.

i dont think its just Toriyama, i dont know why they decided to strech out one concept (the FNC concept) over 5 or 6 games or whatever it is. it forces the story to be thinned out and less interesting in each game. if the mythology was more focused over say 1 game then the story would be more engrossing. i find myself uninterested in the plot of the FF13 games because we know their will be no conclusion in each game. since the point of FF13 is to be a compilation rather than a single game.

which is probabily for sales i think.

i actully think FF5s story was better than FF4s, tbh. the reason FF4 i think is more popular than FF5 is because of the deeper character development. where FF5 missed a trick.

the story was great though, a strange meteor, two worlds originally as one. that was an amazing feeling travelling to another world and finding those sealed weapons. and finding half of that book. no wonder they could never find the other half, it was on another planet, lol.

    on 30 January 2012

And of course, Gilgamesh's first appearance!

I have an idea. I know you don't like FF8, so much. But FF8 and FF9. the thing about them, is that all the cgi was like a silent movie. Looking back it kind of gave those cgi a really unique artistic quality imo. Even in 12 when the dialogue was really good, The scenes never felt quite the same. So my idea is even more retro. Make a silent FF.

granted, that will never happen because SE wouldn't do that. And even most fans would probably be like "I want voices" but what do you think? haha

    on 25 January 2012

FF8 wasnt bad, my problem is i felt thats where a lot of things started going wrong. i mean the issue was really story/characters/and gameplay. all of which divided fans on so many levels. the time compression wishy washy story, the characters like Squall, the Junction system all had a few problems. that being said FF8 did some things extremely well. the photorealistic touch was very impressive and the Junction/GF system was very deep despite the boring Draw 100 magic thing.

on your point i dont think it will ever happen, lol. but there was a nice artisitic quality to it. even in FF7. but that was also because of Umatesu's score.

personally i feel that voice acting is overated. i think RPGs only need it in cutscenes or CGI. you dont need it all the time. a lot of the time its redudant anyway because i read the dailogue a lot faster that they can speak so i end up skipping most of it anyway. i guess for the CGI scenes its not that important, but i do get what your saying, i just dont think they will make it like that again tbh.

    on 26 January 2012

haha, told you the story of 13-2 wasn't going to work for you >_
This is another song, by that japanese lady. It's oddly composed, my favorite stuff. However some might not like it.

Yeah thanks for the link, i think i heard something similar to that on the album you recommened. i think shes really good actully. i dont know much about the J music scene, so i'm not sure what the consenus on that is, but i really enjoyed some of those songs. i agree, the juxtaposition of instrumental arrangments is very satisfying on the train.

i'm not sure about the story of FF13-2, i think i've mentioned it before but i think the writing needs an improvement. the unlying concept of the FNC is interesting, but its the execution that holds it back imo.

Hello, there. Play any games you really like recently?

< Galvanizer posted something on A203D's wall:

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Hopefully, 2012 will be the year we find out what Hiroyuki Ito has been working on all these years. Hopefully, it's FFXV and set in Ivalice.

Thanks man; it really helps to have a friend at this time. i'm going through so much shit at the moment, it will be nice for everything to go away after the new year; an announcement for FF15 will be the cherry on the cake!

    on 25 December 2011

No problem bro. I'm sure next year will be a good time to be a Ivalice Alliance fan. We may even get a playable demo of FF Versus XIII at E3 2012. We have already been told by SQEX that FF XIV 2.0 will be at E3 2012.

    on 26 December 2011

< Galvanizer posted something on A203D's wall:

The ending of FFXIII-2 confirms there will be a FFXIII-3. The game ends with a long FMV that has loads of bad things happening and characters dying and then it shows Lightning as a crystal statue sitting on a throne and then the words "To be continued..." appears on the screen. It looks like Kitase/Toriyama will stick with FFXIII for the entire gen. Good news, IMO.

Still, I feel sorry for Ito and the FFXII team as all this FFXIII milking is going to make people have too high expectations for FFXV. FFXIII-3 is not even announced and people are already wanting FFXV.

Do you know if the story of FF13-2 is good? by the way Skyrim shipped 10 mil copies; it could pass FF7.

    on 20 December 2011

I heard the story is the same quality as the first FFXIII. Don't expect a great narrative seeing as Toriyama is in charge of the script.
It's cool that Skyrim shipped so many copies. It really is looking like WRPGs have taken over JRPGs this gen.

    < Rob-Ot posted something on A203D's wall:

So I read amazon FFXIII-2 reviews. In cotnrast to FFXIII it's being received very well, in fact it's turning out to be the best received FF game on there since X. But not everything good news, apparently the gameplay is amazing and the game flows really really well. The time travel mechanics are fun to do. Monster catching while taking out a third character adds in more strategy due to each monster being different in some ways. The story though...actually people are saying it's decent so not offensively bad like XIII or 3rd birthdays. I doubt its even decent, that would be a minor miracle for toriyama. Noel is a great character, Caius is a great villain but serah is a bit meh.

I think you mentioned before you expected that. i'm supprised the gameplay is good actully. i think your right it might be worth picking up sometime next year, maybe when it drops in price, i wont by it brand new!

    on 17 December 2011

I'm not incredibly surprised at the gameplay being good as Toriyama did direct X-2 which I think had good gameplay but the story was so offensively bad it didn't matter how good the gameplay was.

Yeah I'll get it a month or two after release also in the UK the price of games collapses quickly, Skyrim is so cheap now.

    on 17 December 2011

On that note, Skyrim has shipped 10 mil copies according to a thread on this site. do you think it could sell more copies than FF7?

    on 17 December 2011

    < Rob-Ot posted something on A203D's wall:

FFXIII-2 has released. Interested to see how it is received, Amazon Japan will let us know like it did for 3rd Birthday, FFXIII and even FFXII.

< Galvanizer posted something on A203D's wall:

I'm very interested to see what FFXIII-2 will sell first week in Japan and what it will achieve lifetime over there.

It will fail to even sell 700K. Flop.

    on 10 December 2011

Man, that would be a huge blow for the IP in Japan. I think people don't care for sequels in FF and the original FFXIII wasn't even that well received. If it doesn't reach 1 million lifetime in Japan then that will be epic fail.

    on 10 December 2011

I think even if it sells 1 mil copies in JP it will be considered a success; FF has always been strong in JP; i'm more interested in seeing what the western sales will be, i think it will fail epically in Europe, Europe has always been a mixed market for RPGs; now with games like Mass Effect and Skyrim it will make it more difficult for JRPGs to compete.

    on 11 December 2011

We'll have to see if it even reaches 1 million in Japan. I may sell less than that. I think it will sell worse than FFXIII in all major markets (JP/NA/EU) and have a worldwide total of over 4 million.

    on 11 December 2011

No sales total will be less than 2 Million worldwide. Having sales of over 4 Million for this game I would categorize as a big success considering FFXIII's reception. Your too optimistic on it Galvanizer, the FF brand is dying.

    on 11 December 2011

You really think sales will be less than 2 million worldwide? That will make the game a total flop. How much do you think it will sell in each of the regions JP, NA and EU?

    on 12 December 2011

I would like it to sell less than 2 mil, to galvanise (no pun intended) SE into making better games. but i think it will do less than 3 mil. 4 mil is too much, i think it will do less than 1 mil in each region. NA and JP could be over a mil, but EU will not be.

    on 12 December 2011

My major concern with FFXIII-2 not selling well is that it will make Wada rush the team that's making FFXV (FFXII team). I do not want that to happen. Let them take all the time they need to make a masterpiece.

Hopefully FFXIV 2.0 will be the latest FF for a long time after it comes out in early 2013 so FFXV gets even longer in development.

    on 12 December 2011

Its most likely FF13 Versus will be the last home console FF this gen, i think its more feasible FF15 will be a PS4/Xbox 720/ Wii U launch title. i have no idea what to expect since we have no details about whos is writing the story. i doubt it will be annouced anytime soon.

    on 12 December 2011

I think FFXV will be for WiiU/360/PS3 and will release in 2014 at the earliest. I'm sure PS4 and 720 will be backwards compatible.

FF13-2 got 40/40 from Famitsu but only because they couldn't give it lower than the 39/40 that FF13 got. If they did then the haters would not buy the game.

< Galvanizer posted something on A203D's wall:

Famitsu gave Skyrim 40/40. Hopefully this make the JRPG developers there try and imitate it and create more open world games like Xenoblade.

I am doing okay, preparing for Christmas, planning on going to my parents place in a week or two. I got Skyrim and it's a great game save for the bugs. Oscar movie season will start soon so I'm looking forward to catch the movies that start getting nominated for the awards shows.

Sorry to take a jab against you with FF 8 here, this is gonna be the last thing I say, as I agree, why argue about what we like/dislike. But you saw the villain midway through the first disc. Ultemicia possessed, Edea. Broke Seifers mind and manipulated the evil in him. She took over Rinoa, forced her powers on her, and put her in great risk because of how sorcerers are treated in that game. Like plot device aside, Ultemicia did some pretty slick things to get her objective done. I mean you see her quite a bit, just not her true body, which is more than the bosses in the first 5 end bosses of the series.

< Galvanizer posted something on A203D's wall:

I think FF15 has been in development since just after The Last Remnant came out. Remember there was an event in March 2009 where Hiroshi Minagawa showed Rabanastre rendered in Unreal Engine 3 and having the crowd simulation from Assassin's Creed? That was almost 3 years ago so it may have lead to project. Also, Hiroyuki Ito is known for only liking to work on one big project at a time. If he's been missing since 2007 then he must be working on something.

I haven't played Xenoblade but I've seen gameplay videos and it's exactly what I want the next game by the FF12 team to be like. The size of the world and how it's all open and sandbox is what I want from FF15. The battle system is also very similar to FF12.

I've heard good things about Skyrim and I want to get it but I'm getting Zelda: Skyward Sword first.

< Galvanizer posted something on A203D's wall:

I still think FF15 will come out in 2014 at the earliest but I'm no longer sure it will be for this gen. However, the WiiU is the same power as PS3/360 so they still might make it for those three consoles.

I just hope the game has been in secret development for a long time so that when it does come out it still gets attention and praise like FF12 did.

< Galvanizer posted something on A203D's wall:

Hey, bro. Long time no word. Just thought I'd post some good news. Yoshinori Kitase recently confirmed that Hiroyuki Ito is still working at Square Enix. Good news, IMO. Means he may be secretly working on FF15.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer is like Dragon Age 1(for PC) or KoToR. As they are based on the same principles. I prefer the story in Mask of the Betrayer. If you didn't like dragon age though, there's no chance you'll like this.

< ishiki posted something on A203D's wall:

I will get it. :D Well, I'm a Huge fan of the original Deus Ex. This was not as good (tho, I don't think you've played the original). But still excellent imo. It does have issues which can stand out a bit. If those issues bother you well, it will hamper your enjoyment.

< ishiki posted something on A203D's wall:

since, this isn't really related to that thread. I've gotten Deus Ex, Fallout New Vegas, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of The Betrayer. I probably will get dark souls if the consensus is that it is better than demon souls (which I love). I'm still a bit skeptical because that's pretty much the only game I like from from software. But hopefully it will be great.
