Just Cause creator Avalanche studios boss on PC gaming, piracy and DRM

in PC Discussion on 26 March 2011

The only game I can recall having problems with recently was Batman:AA, and that was down to GfWL. The Dragon Age 2 demo kept crashing, but given what I'd seen of it, I wasn't bothered....

Deus Ex PC is an console port

in Gaming Discussion on 25 March 2011

Nixxes have a solid track record with ports, so I'm not bothered about that, but the fact that it is a port is a bit concerning. I really hope it's not going to be another Invisible War disaster, or be hobbled and dumbed down  'streamlined' to appeal to the CoD masses like Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2....

    Microsoft's vision for PC gaming

in Gaming Discussion on 20 March 2011

Best line from that shitfest- "Buying things enhances my gaming and entertainment experience." Jesus. You have to wonder who exactly this is aimed at. The hardcore aren't going to be using those horrible avatars in Hearts of Iron or Counterstrike. Equally, the casual player isn't going to be launching Farmville or Bejewelled through a GfWL client when they can just open up Facebook. I play games...

PC gaming is dead-- long live PC gaming

in PC Discussion on 18 March 2011

ZenfoldorVGI said: For relevant exclusive "commercial" style games, yes the PC is a sad shadow of glory's past, and it will continue to be. Define 'relevant'- if you're on about 'AAA' games, then that's a pretty narrow segment of the market, and one which really doesn't seem to be proving very profitable for publishers and developers. The PC still gets a ton of exclusive games, more than...

in PC Discussion on 18 March 2011

I think this graph says it all. After realising that they couldn't get gamers to pay for GfWL in the same way as they could on the 360, Microsoft all but abandoned PC gaming and closed down a number of PC focussed studios. I believe Sony have released more PC games than Microsoft over the last few years. If I was an investor in Microsoft stock, I'd be looking at the growth and profits that Steam...

He'd bought the game from the EA store, and you have to sign into your account to activate it. As his account was suspended, he couldn't do so, so was effectively banned from his purchase due to the forum ban. EA have now lifted the ban, so he can play his game....

Dragon age 2 PC - Top 2 texture settings optional download

in PC Discussion on 08 March 2011

From the Bioware forums- OK: Here is the story. Auto-attack option for consoles was added in to the games late in the development cycle after the initial certification build was sent. The auto-attack functionality was sent to be added to the game for testing and approval. This was why staff said it was in game. Due to an error during mastering, the auto-attack file was omitted during...

DICE: death of PC claim is ‘bullshit’

in PC Discussion on 05 March 2011

I don't understand what point you're trying to make here. Single platform console exclusives are usually at least partially funded by the console manufacturer to try and drive hardware sales. If they weren't money-hatted, I doubt they'd get made as it's simply too expensive and risky not to go multi-platform to maximise sales, which is why EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom, and God knows how many...
