How Long Will The Wii U's Lifetime Be?

Why Steam OS will probably be huge...

in PC Discussion on 23 September 2013

I think this will do well with one sector of the gaming community but as yet I don't see it as any significant threat to the status quo. For example, it's basically useless to me because I only have a laptop which is horrid for running games. I won't be streaming them to my HD TV. This (and worse, tablets over PCs altogether) is the growing trend amongst general users as I'm sure your well...

If consoles sales are all about the software, then what's the point Wii U's second screen?

in Nintendo Discussion on 23 September 2013

The whole point of a new console is to create a new level of gameplay not possible on the preceeding technology. Historically this was always based on power alone (and that was enough to make huge leaps in gameplay) Nintendo took a different path with Wii. It wasn't really more powerful than the preceeding gen (about on par with Xbox) but had three distinquishing features - motion controls,...

Wii Sports Club - How big is this?

in Nintendo Discussion on 18 September 2013

So now I'm suppose to be excited because they are porting a 7 year old game to WiiU? (I guess that's better than the 10 year old LoZ:WW HD port) Golf & Bowling with WM+ was done on WSR so that's nothing new. HD? So what. Online? Cool I guess. Tennis, Baseball and Boxing with WM+ controls would be welcome. Konami's The Cages: Batting Practice really showed the potential of WM+ for...

If Nintendo created a $100 3DS TV box, would you buy it?

in Nintendo Discussion on 13 September 2013

This would work for various reasons mainly the required controller. You'd need to own either a 3DS or a WiiU to have a viable controller for this, and if I owned either/both I wouldn't be interested in this. And you can't buy a gamepad without a WiiU. And it would double the cost if you could. Best bet would be it'd come with a snap-on controller that goes over smartphones and that...

Samsung: Next-Gen Galaxy Will Have 64-Bit Processor

in Gaming Discussion on 13 September 2013

It's just an arms race now. I think smartphones (and to a lesser degree tablets) are now overshooting the market with the specs. It's more for bragging rights than anything it'll do to enhance user experience....

What if Nintendo made a "Super Wii" instead of the Wii U?

in Nintendo Discussion on 13 September 2013

If they were going to keep the Wii name, they should have also keep the motion controls front and center - but I disagree with keeping the WM+/Nunchuk exactly as they are. A WiiHD (would probably sell better than WiiU) would not enjoy a lot of success either at this point. The gamepad IS a big turn-off to a lot of people. It does add too much too the cost (especially since it's a hindrance...

Nintendo US Year 1 Console Sales (N64 vs. GCN vs. Wii vs. Wii U)

in Nintendo Discussion on 13 September 2013

Wow. It's amazing how completely clusterf---ed the WiiU's launch is compared to others, especially Wii's as far as software support. Wii greatly benefited from a lot of games pulled off the failing Gamecube's release schedule (LoZ:TP, DK:BB, FE:RD, Mario Strikers Charged, Super Paper Mario) but still there were a lot of dedicated Wii games ready for the first year. WiiU in comparison.... ...

Apple stock down 5 percent after iPhone event

in Gaming Discussion on 11 September 2013

The problem with Apple's announcements is it continues to become a follower instead of being a leader. More and more it's trying to match what other's are already doing instead of being the pace setter as it was with Jobs. The lack of any real innovation - still - is also of major concern to investors. Although having the first 64bit processor is a nice win for Apple, it's really the only...

The 'AAA blockbuster' business model not being sustainable...when will it finally crumble?

in Gaming Discussion on 10 September 2013

I don't think this current model can continue as it is but I don't think it'll suddenly die either. It's more likely as franchises get pushed out of the picture, they are reinvented in another form. For example, they could downsize onto mobile platforms or online games (Steam) where their residual brand power will still guarantee them enough sales to be profitable at that smaller...
