Do you believe in the existence of god because it makes sense or because you think people need religion to be charitable or want to help other people.

People left to their own devices, without a community to be part of, are less inclined to be charitable, sacrifice, and do good, than those in a supportive community.

As for myself, whether or not I believe God exists is pretty irrelevant. What matters more is that, if God be real, THEN what change should one expect to see, and do they see it? I find it a tragedy that belief in God has been reduced to debate over existence. Belief in God alone isn't really worth anything.

on 04 May 2013

But if you don't believe in the existence of god does that not mean that your religion is a lie for convenience sake?
Also most people who participate in the religious debate tend to make their own position clear as to if they are or are not religious.

on 04 May 2013

Here is a think about it: Why do I need to make a position I have clear? What is gained by this? If I go clear, then you get subjected to stereotypical thinking. Why not have points stand on their own. If you want to know what I PRACTICE in my life, which is a far better measure, then I can go into that. I, for example, got in late last night from an Eastern Orthodox Christian church service.

I personally consider what people mentally affirm to be pretty useless.

I've always wondered from reading your threads but....what is your stance on religion?

Do you have a certain religion you practice or do you have your own beliefs?

My religions background was I was raised marginally Catholic, and ended up agnostic. Went through Evangelical and various forms of Protestantism and can be considered a convert to Eastern Orthodox Christianity, mainly because it doesn't take a western judicial view of salvation, and is free of Augustian theology and the pitfalls. And in all this, I also can say I likely could get a college degree in the development of Christian theology based on how much I have read on the subject,

For me, it is a struggle at this point, and I press on. I just get a bit dismayed at the American expression of the Christian religion, and how it tends to twist things and personalize it far more than Jesus would speak of.

Beyond that I do also have my own beliefs, partly on my experiences and attempt to keep sanity, while upholding a right reflection of reality.

For me, I care less about beliefs now, and more about what manifests as reality. I do have a world of hurt I need to get through, like lack of medical coverage, so seeking what can help. For me, real faith is what one does, and not what view one has of reality or wishes to be so. And I have little regard for people who respect people having faith as an end unto itself.

on 16 April 2013

Thanks for the response. I hope and pray for your success on getting medical coverage.

on 16 April 2013

Thanks. Pretty much consider me like a journalist walking around in Christianity to see what is really really in there. That is probably the best way to view myself here at this point. Will see. I do see I may have options but I make less than $10/hr. and medical through NY state approaches like $500 a month and my hours at work are at risk. There are others. But maybe a decent way to view my situation is to think that about every issue impacting western civilization I personally feel at this point.

You ever hear of the puzzle championships? On some island in Europe or something? I was just reading time magazine and they had a whole story on it. I have never seen so many puzzle games that these guys owned.

There are so many events, I can't say I have. I know there is a NY Times Crosswords thing. But, if you have a link, feel free to post it on the wall here.

Island of Kraljevica. World Puzzle Championship. taken place annualy for 21 years.

on 11 April 2013

that is where it was held last year, before that it was Utrecht, Cologne, Rio, and Minsk.

on 11 April 2013

I can't say I heard of this, but doing research, I am not surprised Will Shortz is behind it. Come to think of it, I do recall seeing something about a Sudoku event by Shortz. I am sure it is connected. Anyhow, for me, I am sticking with games far more than puzzles now. Looking to get a book of 100 my games out and I am creating content for it.

Any here is a Wikipedia entry on the organization you mentioned;

on 11 April 2013

you should go to the library and read the time article about it. Really neat stuff!

on 11 April 2013

I probably could go and google sometime about the organization itself. I am pretty sure Mr. Shortz has a website up for his organization. Actually, you can see it here: http://www.worldpuzzle.org/

in Website Issues on 09 May 2013

I am dealing with a lot of issues, fed up with stuff.  I had a job blow up on me (currently now have no more money coming in).  Thinking of doing a life change in some way, stop posting anywhere that directly would enable me to hget a life.  And I don't see posting on here doing that at all.  I am done pretty much. Still up for checking on news and whatnot.  But beyond...
