Turkey Referendum Discussion- Update: Meet your new dictator

in Politics Discussion on 16 April 2017

Something which clearly didn't work out with A PART the Dutch Turks all...

The Meltdown Over No 4K Blu Ray Player In The PS4 Pro

in Gaming Discussion on 08 September 2016

Personally, I'm not upset or anything, but it has made the PS4 pro go from a must buy to a 'buy when my current PS4 dies'. I don't have a 4k TV but the extra quality at 1080p is tempting, yet the future proofing of have a uhd Blu-ray player for when my TV eventually dies and I replace it with a 4k TV was the necessary pull to bring me across the purchasing line. Without it, I can wait....

    PS4 Slim Teardown

in Sony Discussion on 02 September 2016

Using the button battery as a reference (looks like a 2032 or 2016 rechargeable lithium battery), the new die size appears to be ~ 12.5mm x 17.5mm, or 218mm2, a nice reduction from the 348mm2 of the OG PS4. Also has used the 8gb gddr5 chips to drop the memory chip count to 8 from 16. Should be a decent size cost reduction for Sony....

Slim vs Slim - Cheap vs Luxury

in Gaming Discussion on 27 August 2016

The cost reduction enabled by the availability of 16nm lithography could be used in two ways, either shrink the existing design and pass the savings onto the consumer (PS4 slim model), or keep the price the same and add value (XB1 Slim and PS4 Neo). Sony has to make pricing room for the Neo, if Neo is to be $399 (obvious price point) then PS4 can't be $349. So they've used 16nm to cut costs...

Maxwell (NX) vs GCN (PS4/XBOne): Real World Teraflop Performance Comparison.

    Nintendo Q1 2016 results: 940k 3DS & 220k WIIU shipped ( Net loss: 240M$)

in Nintendo Discussion on 27 July 2016

13.02 million Wii U's shipped @ 30 Jun 16. VGChartz has 13.14 million sold through. I think VGChartz has been over tracking Wii U the entire gen, you would think they would have corrected that by now. At least 3DS over tracking has been fixed. Terrible quarter for Nintendo, wasn't expecting much but still sad to see how poor they are going currently. ...

Was the Game Boy Color a successor to the original Game Boy?

in Nintendo Discussion on 17 July 2016

I'd say successor, only because of the fact the vast majority (75% or so) of its games were exclusive to GBC. Backwards compatibility with the GB is irrelevant to whether it's a successor or not, not sure why some people are using that to justify it was an upgrade. The PS2 was fully backwards compatible with the PS1, but no one would argue that the PS2 was merely an upgrade to the PS1 and...

Misleading Xbox One Slim image on Amazon

shikamaru317 said: Darwinianevolution said: Just 40% less in volume is really little, considering the OG XBone is already a beast of a console in size. Thiis gen's consoles are huge, except for the WiiU, which sends the size excess to the controller. XD Yeah, 40% by volume makes it a bit smaller than PS4 I think. From what I can tell XB1 S is wider and thicker than PS4, but...

    Microsoft Can't Win.

in Gaming Discussion on 14 June 2016

This whole 'Scorpio is more powerful, caught Sony off guard' thing is tiresome. Firstly, the idea that companies like Sony or MS find out about each other plans through E3 announcements is laughably naive, these are massive multinational companies with dozens of interrelated supplier relationships that no number of NDA's can prevent the leaking of product plans and details. Secondly, the...

[Opinion] Sony pulled NEO from E3 because they realized it would be the weakest of the 3 consoles within a year

in Gaming Discussion on 14 June 2016

The rumored specs for the PS4 neo are exactly that, rumoured. Just because the Scorpio rumours was true doesn't mean the Ps4 neo ones are. They come from different sources after all. Secondly, Scorpio has a 2304SP GPU that generates it's 6teraflops. The PS4 neo is rumoured to have a 36CU GPU, which in the Radeon RX480 instances gives it 2304SP's, exactly the same as Scorpio. In Scorpio...

Makes you think about why Sony can't slim theirs down other than cost of rumours are to be believed.  The PS4 is still 20% smaller than this, but with 8gb gddr5 chips and a die shrink cutting power consumption and chip size I'm sure they'll be able to shrink it further. Xbox One Slim Image Revealed - 40% Smaller!

in Microsoft Discussion on 12 June 2016

hinch said: Cool. Big improvement over the current model. Wonder how big it is compared to PS4... Assuming the 40% reduction is in volume (which is how they usually describe a size reduction),  the Xb1 slim is still larger than the Ps4, 0.0044m3 (PS4) to 0.0052m3 (Xb1 Slim). At least it's got an internal power supply now, so that's a big improvement. ...

Sony FY2015 financial forecasts delayed until May due to Earthquake, but results are effectively out (see post 2)

in Sony Discussion on 24 April 2016

The impact of the earthquake might not impact them too badly financially. If they have already booked an impairment charge due to lowering demand, then a drop in production due to a shutdown line from the earthquake might have minimal impact (as supply would have to be reduced due to falling demand anyway). Obviously there will be material costs with repairing and restarting the productions...
