PS4 shipped 19M units FY 2017, it has peaked

in Sales Discussion on 30 April 2018

The PS4 will have one last push when Sony finally reduce the RRP cost of the base PS4 to under $200 (£200), this may or may not happen this year...but I fully expect it will happen early next year. Once this happens (alongside a price reduction for the Pro as well), then sales will sky rocket for a bit, before the PS5 is released. Also, don't forget that there are still a decent chunk of...

PS+ prices increasing in some regions on August 31st

in Sony Discussion on 31 July 2017

When the PS4 released in 2013, PS+ was the following prices in the UK: 1 month - £5.49 3 months - £11.99 12 months - £39.99 In 2015, Sony increased the prices of both the 1 month and 3 month packages to: 1 month - £5.99 3 months - £14.99 Yet the 12 month package stayed the same. Now, 2 years later, they are putting up the prices of all 3 packages to: 1 month - £6.99 3 months...

Could Apple or Nintendo make VR mainstream?

in Gaming Discussion on 14 July 2017

What do you think Apple will add to the AR sector? Pokemon Go isn't really showcasing anything special with AR.  If you have a look at some of the ARKit demo's foir iOS11 since it's announcement at...

Oculus Rift+controllers now the same price as the PSVR headset.

in Gaming Discussion on 12 July 2017

Ariakon said: I would greatly appreciate if this would spur Sony into doing a temp price drop on the psvr, as I really want to dip my toes into the VR Waters and don't have the PC necessary to run any decent rift games. Re7 and doom on psvr look exciting.   I doubt it will happen soon, though, rift has to make up a decent bit of ground at the moment. I totally agree....

    There will be PS5

in Sony Discussion on 03 July 2017

Solid-Stark said: You have to keep in mind that engines and games get more advanced and more taxing on hardware. So, let's say a Zen2 CPU may be enough to run current PS4 games at 60fps possibly at 4K or dynamic 4K, but it may not be enough for the games coming out in 2019/2020 and later. Therefore, there is room for superior hardware from launch. One that maybe does 4K30 and 1080p60, and...

    There will be PS5

in Sony Discussion on 29 June 2017

Solid-Stark said: Hell to the yes! It'll likely be backwards compatible. The question is whether they'll release a PS5 Pro at launch (given fans know it will come and may hold off becuase of it), and if they do, do they release a PS5 Super Pro later? The PS4Pro and Xbox One X in my opinion are only there to allow for 4K or Pseudo-4K gaming and thats it. I see no reason why Sony...

PS4 Pro Holding back Xbox One X???

in Gaming Discussion on 16 June 2017

DonFerrari said: Yes, makes sense, but will be on the simple improvements that they commonly put, we were talking more on the things that they would have to work more to make it shine. We haven't seem much effort on using PS4 advantages over X1 even with PS4 outselling X1 2:1, so X1X selling like 5M total on a 150M gen doesn't seem like devs will put much effort. This is a simple...

PS4 Pro Holding back Xbox One X???

in Gaming Discussion on 16 June 2017

Being short, it's Xbox One X that will be holding itself back. 3rd party developers will of course develop games to work on the One X, but why would you spend additional time developing specific features for the One X if the sales are so small. Eventually, assuming sales are good, they will dedicate more time to develop One X specific features. Over and above this, as I've mentioned some...

Digital Foundry - Xbox One X looks stunning - but lack of code at E3 means the jury’s still out.

in Microsoft Discussion on 15 June 2017

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-xbox-one-looks-stunning-but-we-need-to-see-more   I was very interested to see this article last night.  DF as you know have seen quite a bit of the One X in the lead up to E3.  So this article came as a bit of a surprise considering I thought they were “in bed” with Microsoft with regards to the Xbox One...

Does GOW kill off Xbox One X (& PS4 Pro) chances?

in Gaming Discussion on 13 June 2017

gergroy said: I think they did that with Anthem.  In my opinion it is the best looking game of the show.  Of course, still a moot point since we are talking about premium consoles aimed at the 13% or so of the population that actually have a tv capable of realizing the potential of these systems.  Those people just want to justify their purchases... Yet Anthem isn't...

Does GOW kill off Xbox One X (& PS4 Pro) chances?

in Gaming Discussion on 13 June 2017

The numbers for 4K tv's are very low. I fully expect good penetration in a few years, but just feel the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are just a little too soon. Also the increase in hardware is only just about enough to allow for the upgrade from 900p/1080p to 4k with a few extras. So we won't realistically see some serious graphical enhancements until there is alot more power under the hood....so...

Does GOW kill off Xbox One X (& PS4 Pro) chances?

in Gaming Discussion on 13 June 2017

No doubt, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X will enhance the graphics/resolution/frame rate....but the point I was trying to make, is that they were trying to sell us the Xbox One X based on how great the games looked....in short, they didn't look great compared to what Sony had on offer. So the main point I was making is that if you are trying to get us all to buy into getting the One X, then...

Does GOW kill off Xbox One X (& PS4 Pro) chances?

in Gaming Discussion on 13 June 2017

We know that both the Xbox and Playstation conferences weren’t the best, but the biggest takeaway for me was that GOW in particular showcased a higher quality visual compared to anything Xbox had on show for the One X.  The biggest point is that the GOW trailer was apparently showing base PS4 footage.  Why would anyone pay $499 for the most powerful console when we are seeing...

Why buy a PS4 Pro / Xbox One X if you already have a console?

in Gaming Discussion on 13 June 2017

People will only start buying the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X in high volumes once the price comes down and the premium from the base model is small. A $100 premium from the PS4 to PS4 Pro and the sales are 4/1 in favour of the base model. The XBox One X has a premium of $200-$250.....I wonder what the sales will be?...

Xbox One X will launch for $499

in Gaming Discussion on 12 June 2017

Looking at it this way, sales of the PS4 Pro apparently account for 20% of total PS4 sales. Add into the mix that PS4 has been selling double the number of units that the Xbox One has and the Xbox One X is $100 more expensive than the PS4 Pro.....all leads me to believe that we will not see huge sales of this unit at all. And this doesn't take into consideration the possibility that Sony may...

Xbox One X will launch for $499

in Gaming Discussion on 12 June 2017

The $499 pricepoint kills this dead IMHO. Yes it looks a great machine, very powerful but do games look that much better to warrant paying double the price of the Xbox One S? We are at a crossroads with regards to gaming graphical fidelity being honest. There was nothing on show last night from Microsoft/Xbox that look that much different from what we can play on a $249/$299 console right...

    PS4 Slim... that design tho.

in Sony Discussion on 30 August 2016

Matthewconner2100 said: To me, this looks like a way to give some sales to Microsoft...right now the xbox one s looks better then the ps4 slim. Sony is looking to save money. But this is gonna hurt them in the long run. PS4 is still outselling the XBox One 2:1 WW without a pricecut, then I see no way that introducing a smaller, slimmer and cheaper PS4 would make people buy an Xbox...
