Huh I am now in charge of the video games division in a new gaming magazine. Apparently I'm also going to be helping found a league and working with retailers. This should be interesting!

Great! What magazine? Or is it E-zine?

This is where it starts sucking. The guy who hired me knows what he wants. But needs help in creating it. I'm actually helping pick the name right now, we will have a limited run of the first issue 5,000 copies have been ordered by retailers. Right now the magazine is going to be free and we are planning a business model where our gaming league and retailers finance the magazine that will be free in select retailers.

Starting in British Columbia the five year business plan is to get it circulated coast to coast within five years and hopefully 50k-100k copies each magazine.

I am only attaching myself to this project because I think the free model is viable. Throw in the creation of a gaming league pitting gamers against one another across different media arts.

A tournament where the player must master not only video games but card games and board games. Searching across Canada for the ultimate gamers who are masters of all things game.

Also lucky for me I will also be pleasuring readers with exclusive video game industry content. Focusing a huge effort on our local retailers, publishers and developers.

This is a project I can see succeeding. At a time when print media is dying this is just the challenge I am looking for!

I did not read any of that after you ignored 2 of my last 3 wall posts here. But send me the information and I will buy a copy, but you will have to send it to me.

I really hope you get that job! :)

I probably have it not 100% sure yet!

on 05 May 2012

I'm sure you got it. :D

I did, waiting to begin work on our first issue. A second magazine is interested in hiring me, but I am going to likely turn it down as I have no idea if I could take 2- magazine writing jobs at once.

Turned down two website jobs now two. Both were start ups, apparently I was going to make alright money. But the owners were not bright when it comes to gaming.

One was a music industry exec. Works in Vancouver her idea was to create a forum where game makers, musicians and film creators could go to talk about their projects and to one another. Their wasn't going to be a base site, just a forum and she had no intentions on creating podcasts or any main content.

She wanted me to head up the gaming boards and be in charge of marketing and getting developers on the website. She hoped to start turning a profit in a few months on ads to supplement her income.

I told her I wouldn't be associated with a sinking ship. I have to actually believe the company is viable, there is no way she was going to make a profit anytime soon, no way would she get industry clientele without a professional site and content to support the forum.

Bad business model!

I didn't realize how many jobs there are that I can take. Writers are in high demand, was thinking of possibly taking on a local food critic job. Love to eat lol though I really don't know shit about the restaurant industry!

Currently busy looking at new projects. Being scouted by several developers but also have some journalism job offers. Also meeting with the Administrator of Vancouver Film School to try and attend next year. Hopefully you'll be hearing more about these prospects soon.

Well make some more articles here! Add them to your resume.

on 30 April 2012

Unfortunately forum posts just don't carry much weight in getting a job. I'm sick of freelance it is shit you get little pay, no recognition and your stuck doing little articles nobody cares about.

Here I take flack from people who think they are better then me because they have a job. They work for VGChartz or what ever site.

Heck I actually have to try and defend myself here as a journo.

I miss working for an actual company. At the Times I had a VIP status. I could walk into my theater and watch anything I wanted, get early screenings. I could get interviews easily I could sometimes get early games.

As freelance you get shit.

Right now I am in talks to head up a division at a game magazine. I'm in talks with three new websites. I'm being scouted by multiple companies one of which I think is THQ Montréal.

In one month of me deciding to leave freelance I have interviews at schools. I am in talks with several outlets.

I'm making contacts again and looking for potential employers.

I will be so freaking glad to get out of freelance and back with an actual reputable company or site.

For now my blog is going to get some articles. But I am very busy.

I'm meeting with Vancouver Film School about taking my Masters in Entertainment Business Management. I'm also working on a few pitches for everything from documentaries to games.

Looking at possibly moving to Montréal in 2014.

I'm finally getting back on track. Hopefully in two years I will be employed at a game publisher with my Masters degree heck Yah!

Ya hopefully I get a sponsor for school. Unfortunately I'm broke as crap. I'm going to go into debt by a very large amount going to school.

Official Wii U Thread!: METROID+STAR FOX CROSSOVER RUMORED!!! First details of the Wii U's OS. New Wii U Controller with sticks?? Extra info (2GB RAM, late Nov. launch, HD 6770 GPU) leaked by Ubi??

Wow a cross over between StarFox and Metroid would be the end of my support of Retro. I do not care if the game play was decent those two IP are not compatible, their would be no possible way for me to support such a move. Not even Retro could pull this one off, I love Retro they are a very competent studio but a StarFox, Metroid cross over is out of the question!...

lol my comment about five minutes was an exaggeration to show my displeasure with MW3. I did give it 15 or so minutes however long that multiplayer map took!...

Wiibox I never finished the campaign of BlackOps I was not impressed and put the game down after only about 20 minutes. I hated WaW with a passion, I had bought it without trying it first and ended up trading it in within a week because it was just so terrible. I experienced lag and certain hills couldn't be climbed up or over a log. It felt like invisible walls all over again. After WaW I...
