Don't you participate this year in the greatest games event? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=237998

Holy shit, I never even saw this last year! I had participated in the 2017 one, but assumed I had been disinvited year-on-year, as I had received a formal invite to the 2017 one months in advance. Well, now I'll know to actively look for this year's thread if people still want my contributions.

    on 15 June 2019

There are no invites for the event. Everyone can join in, there is only usually a thread for saying you want to participate, so the one making the event can organize it properly. If you got an invite 2017 it was because the organizer looked for more participants.

    on 15 June 2019

I never saw such a thread either last year. I must've just missed it! Somebody linked me to the 2017 one suggesting I opt in. I'll have to keep a closer eye out this year. The opt-in thread is usually posted in September, right?

    on 15 June 2019

Seems early. As event starts in November it better be ready in October, but it depends on who does it.

    on 15 June 2019

Sounds good! I'll refurbish and update my list.

Sorry it took so long to respond about Angels of Death. So you play mostly as Rachel, but you do get to control another character ó although I donít want to spoil anything. The story is quite good and the character writing is crisp. There arenít really heroes and villains in the traditional sense; itís all very complicated. As I wrote in the review, in the game serial killers come off as almost sympathetic. The gameís themes are religion, death, obsession, guilt, etc.

No worries about delays. As you can see, I'm don't always reply to things at lightning speed myself. Anyway, this sounds very interesting! Will definitely start playing Angels of Death this evening. Thanks for the additional info.

    Bete Noir?

I had to look the above term up online. Apparently it means "a person one particularly dislikes". If you're asking if I particularly dislike you, the answer is no because I don't even know you.

    on 26 June 2018

No! When I looked up Bete Noir on Google Images, pics like your avatar came up, google it :P

    on 28 June 2018

Lol! I see. :D My avatar is the alter-ego of protagonist Madeline from Celeste, popularly known as Badeline.

Hey, I just played Butterfly Soup because of your thread and it was actually super good (dialogue was top notch) so I wanted to say thanks for the recommendation :D I just wish it was longer...

I tell the game's detractors to shut the hell their faces. ;)

Anyway, you're certainly welcome! Butterfly Soup is the kind of game I really wish had been around when I was that age. It would've helped me feel less alone. It's also the flat-out funniest game I've ever played before. :D

    Hey, how is everything?

I get up, go to work at the same dead-end, entry-level job I've held since I was in high school, stay there for 10+ hours, come home, eat, game, maybe read from a disheartening book about a topic like the surrogacy industry, go to sleep (if I can), probably either enter a state of dreamlessness or have a nightmare, and repeat. My life is a dream come true. Hope you're finding life less discouraging!

    on 20 March 2018

Man, that sounds like the future that I'm dreading myself!

    on 20 March 2018

Sorry to be discouraging. :P How go your studies and all?

    on 20 March 2018

They're going pretty fine themselves, about 1 month left until break, and I really need to find a job to work during that time! Do you work at retail?

    on 20 March 2018

Glad to hear your studies are going well! I work at a grocery store actually.

    on 21 March 2018

Ah, I see. So, you've worked at the same grocery store since high school?

    on 21 March 2018

Yerp. I bag groceries and clean at a local Albertson's store. It's riveting. :P

    on 21 March 2018

Well, I hope that there are at least some exciting customers to break up the mundane day. When I worked at Lowe's seeing shoplifters get away was always entertaining

    on 21 March 2018

Lol! As for me, I've only personally witnessed two shoplifters escaping myself over the years, though I've gotten word of more. The neighborhood where I work isn't the one where I live. Albertson's, or at least the one I work at, unambiguously caters to wealthier clientel because the store can't compete with Walmart in pricing, so it's basically a bunch of old Trump voters from we-all-own-our-own-businesses-and-have-two/three -story-houses-and-swimming-pools-and-our-grandkids-are-in-private-schools-where-they-don't-teach-evolution Colleyville that we get. Excitement at work usually means like getting yelled at and cussed out over things you can't control like the prices or product selection because they're a bunch of entitled pricks. The job is so boring that one almost hopes that something like that will happen.

That said, I do sometimes have exciting adventures on the way home when people (men) stop to offer me rides since I walk. (No car, plus it's viable to walk, being only a mile from where I live.)

    on 23 March 2018

Either that or I could just turn on the news when I get home. That never fails for excitement/amusement anymore.

Hey, I decided to start reading some socialist works. I was wondering if you were interested in reading some of them and discussing them with me? I don't know if you've already read them or are interested in them, but I just wanted to ask to make sure!

If it's material by say Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Leo Tolstoy, Rosa Luxemburg, Vladimir Lenin, Emma Goldman, Alexander Berkman, Mao Zedong, Lucy Parsons, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, or Murray Bookchin, I'm probably at least loosely familiar with it. It can't be said that I've sat down and read all that material, but I have skimmed a lot of anarchist and Marxist literature over the years. I have my own particular opinions about what a preferable kind of socialist reorganization might look like as well. I'm open to discussing whatever!

    on 28 January 2018

The exception to the rule that I just stated in my last post is Slajov Zizek. I refuse to subject myself to any more of his reactionary, pseudo-intellectual BS than I have already forced myself to. :P

Don't quit college like I did. You'll never stop paying for it.

    on 14 September 2017

D: I don't plan on quitting college myself. So, you're still paying off student debts? Or do you mean that in a more figurative way?

    on 14 September 2017

I meant that you'll never find a decent job. Every job that will actually pay your bills requires a college degree now. (Or a union, but I guess we don't believe in those anymore.)

Close...in a way. It's Alyssa from Cosmic Star Heroine actually. :P CSH is a new, campy, traditionally-styled RPG inspired by classics like Lunar, Phantasy Star, Chrono Trigger, and Suikoden.

    Thanks for the friend request!

No problem. We seem to have a lot in common! :)

    on 28 March 2017

We do? I'm not too familiar with you, to be honest. I remember your political views thread, but I haven't really seen you anywhere else.

    on 28 March 2017

Well that's what I mean. The studies actually suggest that shared politics and religious beliefs are the most important things in establishing solid friendships with a good chance of lasting, and your political views seem fairly similar to mine (though I don't think I'm necessarily as much of a futurist). I don't run into a lot of other anarchist socialists. You know, usually it's the Bernie Sanders types at most.

As to communism, I'm actually neutral on that. I strongly favor social ownership and worker and/or consumer control of the means of production, but have no real preference for whether people want to retain the formality of some individual possessions so long as they don't use them for purposes of accumulation. I understand that some people are concerned about the whole privacy issue that comes with fully realized communism. To me, the main thing is that civil society reign supreme, as in that it replace the state and commercial sectors.

    on 02 April 2017

Yeah, I don't know any other communists in person. However, communism doesn't support the elimination of personal property, it's private property that it supports the elimination of. Private property is property that is used to profit off of other people's labour (like a factory or a store), while personal property is something that is used without unfairly benefiting from somebody else's labour (like a toothbrush or a computer). Of course, this means that some things can fall into either, depending on its use (for example, if someone has a lawnmower, if they do the work by themselves, it's personal property. If someone else uses it, and say they charge the person for borrowing their lawnmower, that's private property, as they benefiting despite the other person doing the work).

    on 02 April 2017

I get what you mean and that's a fair point. There are those, however, who would argue that that's a somewhat subjective distinction that's defined more by use than ownership itself. As for me though, I'm fine with that.
