Jaicee, why is it the only thing people do "vehemently" is deny?

Because the term has come to feel negative. I mean I guess you could say, for example, that someone "vehemently" waited in line for a Switch, but it just sounds more right to say that they excitedly waited in line for it instead even though the two words technically mean the same thing. I vehemently await your reply!

    on 26 November 2019

It's just so weird that this is the case. It's even Oxford's go-to in using it in a sentence. I mean you can see/hear denied used with other adverbs, but vehemently is stuck in an awful "denied" rut. :)

    on 26 November 2019

Dunno what to tell you here.

    on 26 November 2019

Well, if you ever come across an instance in any medium where a denial isn't vehement, please contact me immediately.

So, do you own a cat?

    Yerp! Her name is Olivia.

    on 22 October 2019

Cool, cats make everything better haha.

    on 22 October 2019

Cats are the best. Unlike dogs, who get used to being ordered around, cats demand to be treated as equals. I find that assertiveness humorously contradictory to their ridiculously cute appearance. The reciprocal side of the equation can be found if you don't totally housebreak your cat, but let it outside a lot when (s)he wants to go out. For example, Olivia has been known to leave me a dead bird or mouse on the porch. I feed her, so she feeds me as a reward, lol.

    on 22 October 2019

My cat that passed away a bit ago sometimes even brought me living mouses for me to chase around the house, the bastard was proud of it too,but i do miss him alot though.I my experience the people that tell me they hate cats because they're not social enough usually do something to make the cat that way or are the kind of people that think yelling=raising.

    on 22 October 2019

People that hate cats simply never gave them a chance.
They are genuinely the most interesting animals out there.
And yeah, my cats have always lived outdoors, they'll enter the house as they please, tho.
Cats need nature, and gladly we have some here, they love the freedom and space.

    on 22 October 2019

Sorry about your cat man, I lost one last year too, we get so attached to them...
But I'm sure you took good care of it, it had a better life for sure having someone that liked and cared for it, I know it's sad, I really do, but you both made eachother happier, and that's what makes it completely worth it.

    on 22 October 2019

Hehe thanks for the comments BraloD,i'm sorry for your loss too! My dear cat did not come home for a week and when he did i found him on the big pillow i bought for hime where he always slept on,it was covered in blood and it it smelled like rotting flesh.I was happy to see him and i thought it would be alright till i saw maggots crawling in his furr.In a pannick i tried to immidiately find vets that could help me outside the normal visiting hour and when i found one i checked on my cat and he was gone again.I searched for him with all the neighbours and on all neighbouring fields but not sign of him,it was so stuped of me to not block his way to go outside.I could not sleep that night and at some time i heard the catdoor opening si i checked downstairs and there he was again kneading on his pillow so i stayed up all night trying to catch as many maggots as i could out of his body,he was in pain but did stayed very silent like he did not want to show it and it was devestating,he did let me catch thos damn disgusting maggots and by the morning i got like hundreds of them and as soon as i could i gently picked him up to go to the vet while convincing myself it was going to be fine.So did drop him off with the vet and i went shopping for a cage,a pillow to sleep on,and some toys to keep him seperate from the other cat for a while when he got back.Just when i bought all that stuff and went outside of the shop i got the call from the vet that they found out the maggots allready did too much damage to his intestines and it would be the best to let him sleep in so i told them with much pain in the heart that i did agree with it.

    on 23 October 2019

What pains me the most is how i just dropped him off at the vet and he might have thought i had disposed him,it's a sad end for the best cat i ever had.

    on 23 October 2019

Hey, it's certainly not like this.
Look at how much you cared for it, you panicked, lost sleep, tended for its wounds and did all you could to take him to the vet asap.
Sadly some things simply are out of our control, I'm sure the vet didn't think bed of your and much less your cat did it, your cat knew how much cared for it.
The same thing happened to my cat that dies last year some two years before he died. He went missing for a week and came back home with a massive wound in his head near the ear filled with maggots.
We took it to the vet asap and gladly she was able to save my cat's life, but sadly the maggots messed with something in its head, he became a bit problematic after it and develop a very though mouth disease. (And had almost the full ear taken away in the surgery).
The cat would them keep biting itself all day long as if it was always bothered by something (probably a neurological problem), after a year it started drolling almost everyday because of the mouth disease that no medicine would make go away, and it them started losing basic notions and control of its body, until one day it started to vomit blood and the vet told us there was no going back from it, so it was put to rest.
It's really sad when it happens, but believe me, gratitude is all your cat always had for all the time and good care you gave to it.
It's hard to cope up with it, but please don't take it too hard on yourself, it's not your fault.

    on 23 October 2019

Also, sorry for the long ass post on your wall Jaicee, lol.

    on 23 October 2019

Aw, don't worry about the length BraLoD (or Immersive), it's all good! I've lost more than one pet over the years, including two that I/we (as applicable to my age at the time) have been forced to put down. I know what that is. The first time that happened was to the family dog. (We usually had one around because it was helpful for hunting. I haven't had one in about 19 years myself though.) He came down with a form of mouth cancer and had to spend a whole summer in our tiny laundry room where we covered the floor with towels. He had a gigantic stomach growth from it and cough up blood regularly. There was no path to recovery though and it would only get worse, so we had to have him put down. I had been the one most responsible for raising him, taking him for walks and so forth, so it hit me particularly hard. I felt the same way Immersive did about it: horribly guilty, like maybe he'd thought we betrayed him. Neither dad nor I wanted another dog for about a year after that just because of how painful that experience was. I know what it is. *hugs*

    on 24 October 2019

Sorry to hear you also went through it Jaicee.

    on 24 October 2019

It's been a long time, I'm alright. But today I have Olivia. She's not very helpful for hunting, but she does brush up against my arm (which she associates with being petted) from time to time and loves paw at the pillows on the sofa, so that makes up for it. And has been known to wake me up at like 2 AM by hopping on the bed, which is kind of hilarious. Most people have another person who will hop into bed with them. I have a cat. Such is my state of existence. Anyway, it's funny when that happens, even if it costs me my beauty rest.

    on 24 October 2019

Yeah, cats love the night, lol.
But do you need to hunt over there?

    on 24 October 2019

Kind of. It's a pretty poor community. Most people wind up using the food pantry at some point or other in a given year. Lots of people hunt for food on occasion. I do when my food stamps run out. Otherwise I'd have to cut out meals.

    on 24 October 2019

Do you live near the mountains or snow?
When thinking about USA we foreigners most often than not think about a big rich country where people have easy access to basically everything.
I've seem some TV programs on History Channel about people that live on isolated places there and often provide for themselves with hunting and such activities, though.
It's hard to think about a poor place there, honestly, at least the way poverty runs around here.
Hunting is such an abstract concept around here too.
Damn, I didn't imagine you were an actual hunter!

    on 24 October 2019

Just want to say, snipping out my arguments from my post don't make them go away. I'd still like to know your stance on grunt work jobs being male dominated. Do you think more women should have these jobs too? If so atleast you're consistent lol.

I have a finite amount of time and energy to contribute to this message board and accordingly respond to what I feel earns a response and not what doesn't. Most of your post in question was just a long-winded way of saying "I promise I'm not biased", then you threw in that one line that, in my mind, proved you are (whether you yourself recognize as much or not), so I responded to that.

As to what I believe about the sex composition of the workforce, I'm of the view that men and women are essentially the same when it comes to our root instincts and pursue different courses in life than the other sex only in as far as we are socially engineered to do so. So yeah, I think that an equitable world would be one where there existed minimal distinctions between the type of work that men tend toward and that which women tend toward.

    on 06 October 2019

Also, tacking "lol" onto everything you say doesn't actually make it common sense.

    on 06 October 2019

No excuses for ignorance, if you don't want to have a discussion, then don't. You can delude yourself into thinking I'm biased and that it somehow discredits everything I say, but if you wanna get others to believe the same then yeah it's gonna take some effort.

I was actually pointing out how you're biased. You want to believe the stats somehow also prove why those stats are what they are to support your narrative. You need evidence and proof, otherwise that's just your convenient assumption. I could similarly say those stats must mean men are just better than women. Of course that would be dumb to say, as there's no biological reason why men would be better. So too is it dumb to say women are being held back when there are no rules stopping them. The only actual fact that explain the stats is that there are more men in the workforce, which is further why it makes more sense to believe it's happenstance than anything else.

I also questioned your narrative, that more specific representation is needed, cause frankly it's dumb and useless as explained already. That you don't even try to defend it is telling.

That's a mouthy way of just saying yes for someone who lacks time and energy lol. I doubt you'd ever actually vouch for more women doing grunt work specifically, but still I can't accuse you of double standard.

Now I want to talk about the sire ads. Very sorry. The big ones, like the background one, are location based. Not sure if it's just countries or if it's also split into regions within countries. I had to look up Cane's Chicken Fingers, and found out there are close to 500 locations in the U.S.

Some of the smaller ad boxes are personalized though. I'm a hidden supporter, so I only see the ads when I log out and return to log-in. Last time I did this, the personalized ads were for Ashley Madison......I have never been to that site, but I did look at sex on the internet for the first time last Friday.

Thaaaaat makes more sense! (That they're location-based, that is.) Not that I don't like chicken fingers. Chicken fingers are excellent. Also, congrats on porn?

    on 22 August 2019

Thanks! I've been clicking on the Ashley Madison ads, but don't want to start using that particular service until I'm married, or at least have a serious girlfriend. I don't think it works properly unless the customer is able to destroy as many lives as possible.

Holy shit, I never even saw this last year! I had participated in the 2017 one, but assumed I had been disinvited year-on-year, as I had received a formal invite to the 2017 one months in advance. Well, now I'll know to actively look for this year's thread if people still want my contributions.

    on 15 June 2019

There are no invites for the event. Everyone can join in, there is only usually a thread for saying you want to participate, so the one making the event can organize it properly. If you got an invite 2017 it was because the organizer looked for more participants.

    on 15 June 2019

I never saw such a thread either last year. I must've just missed it! Somebody linked me to the 2017 one suggesting I opt in. I'll have to keep a closer eye out this year. The opt-in thread is usually posted in September, right?

Sorry it took so long to respond about Angels of Death. So you play mostly as Rachel, but you do get to control another character ó although I donít want to spoil anything. The story is quite good and the character writing is crisp. There arenít really heroes and villains in the traditional sense; itís all very complicated. As I wrote in the review, in the game serial killers come off as almost sympathetic. The gameís themes are religion, death, obsession, guilt, etc.

No worries about delays. As you can see, I'm don't always reply to things at lightning speed myself. Anyway, this sounds very interesting! Will definitely start playing Angels of Death this evening. Thanks for the additional info.

I get up, go to work at the same dead-end, entry-level job I've held since I was in high school, stay there for 10+ hours, come home, eat, game, maybe read from a disheartening book about a topic like the surrogacy industry, go to sleep (if I can), probably either enter a state of dreamlessness or have a nightmare, and repeat. My life is a dream come true. Hope you're finding life less discouraging!

    on 21 March 2018

Ah, I see. So, you've worked at the same grocery store since high school?

    on 21 March 2018

Yerp. I bag groceries and clean at a local Albertson's store. It's riveting. :P

    on 21 March 2018

Well, I hope that there are at least some exciting customers to break up the mundane day. When I worked at Lowe's seeing shoplifters get away was always entertaining

    on 21 March 2018

Lol! As for me, I've only personally witnessed two shoplifters escaping myself over the years, though I've gotten word of more. The neighborhood where I work isn't the one where I live. Albertson's, or at least the one I work at, unambiguously caters to wealthier clientel because the store can't compete with Walmart in pricing, so it's basically a bunch of old Trump voters from we-all-own-our-own-businesses-and-have-two/three -story-houses-and-swimming-pools-and-our-grandkids-are-in-private-schools-where-they-don't-teach-evolution Colleyville that we get. Excitement at work usually means like getting yelled at and cussed out over things you can't control like the prices or product selection because they're a bunch of entitled pricks. The job is so boring that one almost hopes that something like that will happen.

That said, I do sometimes have exciting adventures on the way home when people (men) stop to offer me rides since I walk. (No car, plus it's viable to walk, being only a mile from where I live.)

    on 23 March 2018

Either that or I could just turn on the news when I get home. That never fails for excitement/amusement anymore.
