The cart limitations of the Switch is really starting to hurt the console.

in Nintendo Discussion on 07 April 2019

Meh - software developers are always limited by something or other. That's why they get paid to optimise things. The BluRay drive on PS4 is limited to 50Gb, and a quick Google for SD cards seems to be about $10 for 64 Gb. So that's the just price you'll have pay for a physical release over digital on Switch. Probably worth it if you're really into a hobby IMO: you get a manual and box,...

Update: Jade Raymond joins Google as Vice President | Rumor: Google's gaming console details leaked, possible controller design revealed via patent

in Gaming Discussion on 10 March 2019

Seems unlikely that a patent lawyer would "leak" internal IP. They probably know those rules. They probably just drew a generic controller. IT companies patent all kinds of things. This patent could just be about how a generic controller could access a menu in Android....

Nintendo systems and "lack" of competition

in Nintendo Discussion on 24 December 2018

In the same way, there isn't any proper competition for games suitable for under 15s on Xbox and PS4. Only Nintendo seem to target "family friendly" in a satisfactory way. As always though: Nintendo have picked a market share that other companies are ignoring. I saw the gameplay for Mortal Kombat 11, and I thought: "Hmm... maybe that's a bit much". So maybe just I'm getting old?...

Are games being announced too early?

in Gaming Discussion on 18 June 2018

There seems to be a tendency to this. Elon Musk’s Tesla has been burned by the preannouncements. What is the point of advertising something that isn’t available for purchase? Steve Jobs had great phrase: “...and available to buy after after the show”...

Atari VCS Has Pulled in Nearly $2.4 Million Dollars in Funding in Three Days!

in Gaming Discussion on 09 June 2018

Follow up - check out the latest news: The developer of the game that they demoed (Tempest 4000) has said that he doesn't know how "Atari" ran his software on their device, as he hasn't produced a Linux port. "Atari" have changed the wording on their website to de-emphasise that the games were running on the console. "Atari" have now collected nearly $3 million dollars on Indigogo....

Dmick90 said: Well the console isn't shipping until July 2019, that's a long ways away. So there is plenty of time for R&D and for Atari to tweak the specs, and finalize the product if need be.  I think people are interested but they're playing the wait and see game until they are shown more of what it can do. So far we haven't seen very much and there needs to be more game...

The Atari VCS Console PreOrder Live Full Specs

in Gaming Discussion on 31 May 2018

doopdooploop said: I see people are confused about the Atari VCS, what purpose it serves and what value it holds. The VCS is REALLY just a small x86 PC with an AMD APU capable of playing games, but not really at the same visual quality of a PS4 for example. Only 4GB of RAM will restrict it more than anything. "Erg, gaw! It sucks, it so week!!" Yes, yes it is,... in comparison to machines...

Regarding Switch third party support: Developers don't care about power

in Nintendo Discussion on 30 May 2018

So these assumptions bolster each other and become true. 2nd gen (Atari 2600) has aged better than 3rd gen (NES)

in Gaming Discussion on 28 May 2018

The NES was the console that was advanced enough to set up franchises and story lines that people cared about. So you get more memorable stuff. 2600 games are fun, but there wasn't a Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, or Metroid series that spawned from it. So there isn't the same urge to go back to see where it all started....

Is Russia closer to causing a massive War than North Korea or even the United States?

in Politics Discussion on 15 March 2018

Russia has been very effectively neutralised by a concerted effort to encourage former USSR states to join the EU expansion project. Throw a bit of money at Ukraine and Belarus and maybe more bits will leave. Chechnya and Georgia next? Although Russia has a large land mass, its population is only a little more than 120million. They could easily be defeated by two EU countries. I...
