Merry Christmas and be sure to have a happy new year!

Thanks Wright. My holiday wishes for you will be either good or bad depending on how The Evil Within turns out to be because you made me buy it.

    on 31 December 2015

Well, be sure to give me your impressions!

    on 31 December 2015

The first chapter was so over the top and ridiculous it made my laugh. Things got pretty weird and mysterious on the second chapter. I have to say that I'm intrigued and the game made me want to know what's going happen and what was the cause of all of this.

It's not a subtle game at all. I find the big bottle sized droplets of blood hilarious, and I can see an obvious plot twist coming from the first time I used a mirror, but I'm still interested to see what they will do with it.

    on 01 January 2016

Well, yeah. First chapter's tone has nothing to do with the rest of the game, but it still serves as a nice prologue (?). Let's see if the rest of the plot manages to surprise you, though be wary that it's confusing as heck (it's actually very simple, but explained terribly). Be sure to pick lore items on the way, like Sebastian's notebook pages.

What's up? I must say, I was stalking various users and came across the pic you posted on Wright's wall. I commend you.

I have plenty more pictures like that, my new virtual friend. Though it's difficult to pick the ones that are inappropriately appropriate for vgchartz.

    on 16 December 2015

Actually upon closer inspection, I noticed the icon in the upper right corner of the pic. That's when I REALLY realized what we had here. Therefore, I commend you AGAIN X2. I once had a virtual friend as well. Actually, it was before the interwebs so it was more of a make believe friend. His name was "Skeletor," and I "met" him during my coming of age. We did a lot of make believing.

How random. Reyn must be a narcissistic violent fellow if he shouts his name each time he punches someone, or perhaps he's just an overgrown and deformed pokemon just following his masters orders.

I don't want to tinker with my cars. I like to keep them pure, just the way Adonai intended them to be. However, the Zonda is one crazy witch with a capital B. So I might... just might do something about that.

I don't know anything about Shenmu other than the fact that it has a cult following. Did you play it before? It looks promising, in a slice of life game kind of way.

    on 21 June 2015

Shenmue is an amazing experience, although I have to say it is probably one of the slowest-paced games ever conceived. That isn't bad per se, but you gotta handle it with care and time.

Also known as "Virtual Fighter Story Mode" (because that's how it was first conceived), Shenmue is a homage to the classical japanese/chinese revenge movies, set in a modern Japan/China. Ryo's (the main protagonist) father is murdered by a man called Lan Di, who possesses extraordinary martial arts skills. Ryo then decides to pursue this man in the hope of having payback; but Ryo is just a mere japanese student, without any kind of resources or money. So you have to wander through japanese streets, asking for information about Lan Di or the people he's working it and following all kind of leads from a lot of people. You get to roam in a open-world Japan, and the map isn't precisely small, so you'll be doing a lot of running and asking people around.
There's also the fact that you're a student, so from time to time you'll have to look for job oportunities and try to earn some money. Cash, at times, is the only way to proceed (kinda like real life), so you're forced to do so regardless if you want or not; although you can always sell things at pawnshops. Alternatively, you can ignore everything and just go to the arcade machines and have some fun, or take off the dust of your dreamcast at home and play some quality TV videogames.

Then there's the unavoidable times on which you're forced to fight foes, whether because you're getting too close to the truth, or because you pissed someone off (generally it's the combination of both). The game switches then to a classical Virtual Fighter perspective, but with all kind of martial arts combos to your disposition. Losing a fight doesn't necessarily lead to a game over (unless your life is threatened), and you can open different branches depending on what fights you win and which ones you don't. (You'll generally try to win everything, though).

What's funny is that there are battles that "technically" you're not supposed to win, but if you're good enough the game will allow progress and you'll basically skip the whole "losing" section.

    on 21 June 2015

"Shenmue is a homage to the classical japanese/chinese revenge movies..."

That sounds very interesting. I loved watching those old movies when I was a kid, and I assume Yu Suzuki grew up with when they were popular at the time. That man must have poured his heart and soul into this series if he kept pursuing for all these years

    on 21 June 2015

It also features one of the best "heads-up, QTEs are implemented into this game" ever done.

Yeah, 99% of the people playing will miss that first button, but at least it doesn't happen whenever you're on a critical moment. xD

Sad and a little empty on the inside. There's always next year, but I'll enjoy the lesser things in life in the meantime.

Yeah but odds are it'll be before the end of the year. After all this season is 14 months old!
