Have you watched the TEW2 one hour demo? If so, any good? Not sure if i should watch it or not

      x
Actually, yeah I have. I wanted not to, because I feared spoilers, but my curiosity was far stronger.

What can I say... I don't want to hype things much, so I'll tell you this: it looks like a mixed bag from what I could gather.

One of the issues was the dude playing, which was not bad (not like the Cuphead journalist bad), but he could have done things much better. As a result I could notice some glitches and wonkiness. Also, animations feel less polished than TEW1, unfortunately. Sebastian running from enemies looks horrifyingly comical.

If there's some way I could describe it, imagine having the strengths and weaknessess of both Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill Homecoming. This is The Evil Within 2.

You can interact with several hidden NPCs, and they provide a safe haven. Talking to them gives you that awkward conversation system like in Homecoming (complete with both standing still like some puppets devoid of life talking), but now there seems to be more depth to where you can go.

It's a semi-open world. Before you think "fuck, why does everything has to be open world today", I like this model, because every Chapter is linked through a lineal progression, but you're given a small playground in the chapter. Think of it like Chapter 3 in TEW1, but a bigger town with every single house explorable, even though to finish the chapter you still have to do the lineal exit at the end of the town. You also get safe havens where you can customize weapons. Now you can use trap parts to create ammo as well (provided you have gunpowder), not just crossbow arrow.

You get some sort of gizmo that allows you to pick up "noise". This noise dictates where the main story segment goes (if you want to keep on with the story) or where are some sidequests. The only sidequests he did was granted with a broken sniper rifle as a reward, so I'm guessing you have to find a way to fix it somehow. It was kinda neat.

Sebastian is the same dude as TEW1 (the CGI trailers didn't look as him much, but he does in-game), though there are two changes: his voice actor isn't the same (sounds the same, but you can pick up a difference), and now Sebastian comments on EVERYTHING. I don't really mind it but dude can't shut up now.

Also, I'm not sure if it is a nod to Deadly Premonition, but now you can stalk houses and drink coffee to recover full health.

Other than that, it's the same game than TEW1 but bigger. Same inventory system, same gunplay, same mechanics, same collecting green gel from enemies, same awkwardly punching/knifing boxes to open them and gather elements, same (more refined) stealth, and so on. The Silent Hill 1 vibe is greatly infused with a more "evil" aspect (like RE7), so the atmosphere is quite great.

All in all, I can't wait to play it. I'm not sure if I'll end up liking it more than TEW1, but I'm fairly sure I'm going to love it regardless.

wow I did not expect an essay, thanks for the impressions
I did end up skimming through it, not most of it, just skipping from major scenes. Seemed good, only thing that bothered me a little was that the radio/resonance thing seemed to pop up so damn often, it could get annoying and immersion breaking, we'll see. Not a fan of Seb's different voice either but that's a minor gripe.

Did you prefer BB or DS3

      x
I used to prefer DS3. After replaying the games, my opinion of BB stood still whereas DS3 sunk down (it become my least liked Souls game, actually).

      So Bloodborne.

      on 26 November 2016

      x
      What's the issue with DS3?

      on 27 November 2016

      x
Glossing over the first and second playthrough, on which I personally don't have anything bad to say (mostly because I'm playing through a well-earned hype and the game is extremely great regardless of being the weaker Souls), there are tons of flaws that become extremely evident afterwards:

      · Broken balance. Now this is something that happens in all Souls alright, but it's extremely deep here. Magic and Miracles are USELESS. On the other hand, pyro and (surprisingly) melee feels like playing on Easy mode.

      · Broken stats. For some reason, some stats, like Poise, simply doesn't work. There's a whole world of memes based around these, and From Software's lackuster reply at fixing them.

      · Lackuster dungeon/world design. Probably the point I hate the most. The brilliance and display of other games is almost gone. You generally pursue a downhill path, and almost every "secret sidezone" you find ends up being part of the main story, not to mention there's barely any branches at all save for two. I can somehow understand it because after five games, counting this one, it's hard to keep the same level throughout, but ugh. It really feels like they were tired when designing the world.

      · Recycled story. Welcome back, Dark Souls 1. Let's tell the same tale with different words.

There's plenty of things to love in Dark Souls 3, mind you. It took inspiration from Demon's and Dark Souls, plus Bloodborne in several aspects. There are some memorable places to explore out there, there's some good sidequests involving a specific NPC, and I loved some of the bosses (the penultimate boss being one of my favourite bosses of all the franchise, moreso from a design standpoint than a difficulty one). Like I said, Dark Souls 3 is a great game, although I recall you not liking Dark Souls, so this game is not going to change your mind about that.

      on 27 November 2016

      x
That's not entirely true, i was liking Demon's souls a lot and then didn't have patience for a part i didn't like. With Dark Souls i liked most of it but eventually got bored because after +30 hours it got too easy and didn't feel like trudging along to see if the challenge came back
I'm playing DS3 right now actually, just defeated Wolnir.

      on 27 November 2016

      x
If you're at Wolnir, I can only hope you went to the Cathedral of the Deep, unless you want to make some backtracking now. xD

      on 27 November 2016

      x
Yeah i was thinking that too. I DID go to the cathedral and activated bonfires, but saw doors locked from the other side and thought i wasn't supposed to be there yet. I actually even went there before fighting Abyss watchers..
I saw in the trophies that there was a boss more common than Wolnir tha tI hadn't done yet and figured it had to be in the Cathedral. Will go there next

      on 27 November 2016

      x
That's one of the things I was referring to. Almost every "sideplace" you think you can leave for later turns out to be a main place you gotta go yes or yes.

      on 27 November 2016

      x
      I'm enjoying it
BB remains the fave of course :3

      on 29 November 2016

      x
THat's interesting. I recall you saying you didn't enjoy Dark Souls, for some reason.

      on 29 November 2016

      x
As I said, I was liking Demon's Souls (a lot I might add) up until one point, and with Dark souls it was up and down, mostly up, until I got bored
Can't guarantee that i'll keep liking DS3 till the end..

      on 30 November 2016

      x
I'm confused. I fought Aldrich after being summoned into Anri's world
But did not get a trophy. Do i still have to properly defeat that boss by myself? Cause if so I don't know how to get there, the door next to the summon sign is locked

      on 03 December 2016

      x
Yes, you have to defeat Aldrich. Defeating it in Anri's world doesn't count. Don't worry, you'll find a way since Aldrich is pretty much required to defeat in order to beat the game.

      Try going...left.

      on 03 December 2016

      x

      x
I finished DS3, beat every boss except Nameless King (only tried once). I decided to leave "full completion", including that guy, till when I have the season pass/all dlc is available instead of playing the rest in chunks
I've started DS2 SOTS, can already tell i won't like it as much as 3.

Do you think FFXV is still Fabulla Nova Crystallis and the only reason it officially no longer is is to put more distance between the game and the XIII trilogy? I do.

      x
Wait, what? I'm not sure I understand the question...could you rephrase it please? :3

      on 13 July 2016

      x
XIII trilogy and Type-0 were part of FNC. FFXV was going to as well, when it was known as FF Versus XIII, but with the change to FFXV they said it no longer was. But i think it still is. And they just say it isn't to put distance between XV and the ill-repped XIII trilogy.

      on 14 July 2016

      x
Oh, well. It all depends on how they want to treat the deity aspect and if some kind of entity (ala Fal'cie) makes an appearance here. Maybe you can notice some patterns (like same world structure, same gods workarounds, but with a different name, which would strongly suggest there were the ties into XIII and Type-0). You also have to take into account that Nomura was kicked out and Tabata was put in charge, and the first thing he did was some revisionist thing (changing characters and plot details), so there's the possibility that Tabata doesn't want to do anything with Fabula Nova Crystallis.
It's weird that there's now this rumor of an updated FFXIII into current-gen. Maybe there are some ties, and they want to subtly push them as far as they can. Maybe.

If it wasn't, wouldn't mind a Sazh cameo, though. Or Squall. Squall certainly would look nice among the party, he also loves black nghhhh.

      on 14 July 2016

      x
I think that even with Tabata's revisionism it might still be connected, considering he probably holds Type-0 dear as a director of that game.

In other news, Iris is a cutie pbs.twimg.com/media/CnU5DgJVIAAIvUj.jpg:large" target="_blank" class="link">https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CnU5DgJVIAAIvUj.jpg:large

Tabata was the director of Type-0? Ewww. I hated that game. Had good intentions but ultimately crumbled over lots of lots of nonsensical things. xD

Iris is her name? That elusive girl from the trailer. Nice.

What's with the Sephiroth look-alike dude?

      on 14 July 2016

      x
Not quite so elusive anymore, she was also in Ep 3 of the anime, younger version

Dude is Ravus, all I know is that he's also in Kingsglaive gematsu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Kingsglaive-FFXV_07-07-16_001.jpg" target="_blank" class="link">http://gematsu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Kingsglaive-FFXV_07-07-16_001.jpg

I liked Type-0 aside from some PSP limitations and also the uneven pace/structure. For a portable AAA FF release it was pretty good, obviously doesn't quite hold up to console FFs

      let's face it
regardless of out the game turns out, FFXV has OST of the year pinned down
and yes a VIII port would be nice, would rather switch between ps4 and vita remote play than only play it on Vita

      x
Ost of the year? Did SE release the whole soundtrack or something? The only thing I've heard is what comes into Episode Duscae, and it's really moody, but need more samples before passing judgment. In a side note, the pre-combat danger tune gets boring quick. Wish it alters itself from time to time or there is a way to disable it altogether.

I get VII has preferential treatment, but there is zero reason not to put the rest of the PSX games. Easy money and people get more FF on consoles, which is never a bad thing. I hate it because I own the original PS1 game but don't have a Ps1 or Ps2 or Ps3. Yet fuck me because even on the ps3 case you could get the game digitally, but fuck choices on Ps4. I don't want to get VII out of pity (of myself)

What's your favorite game in the XIII trilogy?

      x
That'd be the original XIII. I never played Lightning Returns, but for some reason XIII-2 didn't capture me as much as XIII did despite adding several things that would have contributed to make the original XIII a much better game. I blame the fact that Square-Enix wasn't able to properly make a sequel without incurring in too many plot mistakes, not unlike what happened to the movie Looper and their time-travel theories.

      What about you?

      on 02 July 2016

      x
Lightning returns. I liked what it committed to, as if they thought "at this point doesn't matter who we try to please let's just do what we want with Lightning fanservice" and the combat was less boring
Wish that old rumour of HD trilogy coming to next gen panned out
XIII-2 (in particular, though the trilogy as a whole too) plot problems remind me of The 3rd birthday, goddamn Toriyama..

      on 02 July 2016

      x
I dunno. XIII's combat was simple enough, so I think that's another part of the charm while XIII-2 tried to go way too far with mosnter formations and editable paradigms (which honestly just one or two worked most of the time). Lightning Returns looked cool with the dress-ups, but tried the demo and I couldn't believe that they found even a new way to introduce Hope in the way of the narrative, yet relegating once again of Sazh to god knows where. And they gave too much importance (in XIII-2, at least) to Lightning's sister, which I honestly found a flat character that was good enough just to make some plot points in XIII.
I mean, I didn't find XIII-2 as a bad game overall, but it was just lacking something, and the trippy non-sensical travelling archs were...eh. I dunno who was in charge of that plot but he couldn't write a story to save his life, that's for sure.

I wouldn't get an HD trilogy, though. I'd rather go find a copy of Lightning Returns for last-gen. :P
