    Nintendo supply problem?

in Sales Discussion on 21 April 2007

Indeed I'm drifting further from unexpected-demand to mass incompetence. Nintendo could **annihilate** the competition if it had the supply now. If they're still worrying about per-unit profitability at this point then they've been so conditioned by failure they don't know how to win anymore....

windbane said: I think the PS3 sales will increase as more software comes out and I think FF13 would sell no matter what console it was released on. The worst selling FF game since FF6 was FF12 at 4.94 worldwide. Sunshine, Mario Bros. Melee, and Double Dash sold a million or more than FF12 on a console that did worse than the xbox in worldwide sales. Xbox just had Halo and Halo 2 that sold...

One game won't sell systems if the platform doesn't otherwise look viable, at least not at PS3 prices. If the PS3 keeps tracking like this (no reason to expect that to change this year) the PS3 will be Xbox kinds of irelevant in Japan by the time FFXIII is due. What on earth is in it for S-E to fight against that kind of tide? Because they don't think the hair physics will be good...

FFXII is still a long ways off. Every dollar S-E puts into it from this point on is down the drain assuming it stays PS3 exclusive. PS3 + 360 could break even at least, but it doesn't help them in Japan where they'd be flushing their #1 franchise down the tubes.FFXII is whatever S-E make it. If they want to keep the franchise viable in Japan, and especially if they want to make boat-loads...

I'm 99% convinced S-E announcing FFXIII for Wii is just a matter of time. Whether it'll happen at this event we'll see, but it will happen......

    Choosing the wrong console?

in Sales Discussion on 20 April 2007

DoesWhatNintenDont said:  I agree whole-heartedly, with exception of the Xbox. I never got much life out of that console.    Between Halo2 and Splinter Cell games primarily I was happy: I went half w/ my brother so it wasn't too bad. If anything selection on Xbox only seems to have narrowed with the 360 however, unless you're into hardcore RPGs which I'm not......

    Nintendo supply problem?

in Sales Discussion on 20 April 2007

Wii demand is simply unprecedented, several times over. This is the fastest any home console has ever been produced/sold this early by a wide margin: it seems Nintendo planned for the best-case scenario (i.e. PS2-like early demand), and even that wasn't close. Especially for it to be so strong and domineering in every region... just incredible.I don't see any reason, moreover, for...

    Choosing the wrong console?

in Sales Discussion on 20 April 2007

I still consider the Dreamcast to have been the "right option": got more than my money's worth. Ditto the N64, Xbox, etc.If I'd invested $600 in a PS3 to play Motorstorm for the next 5 years however I'd probably feel differently ...

PS3 flops in US (March) - what now?

in Sales Discussion on 20 April 2007

Summer's going to be death for the 360 and especially the PS3 without price-cuts. The 360 has 'big games' lined up - Mass Effect, Forza, Blue Dragon - but these won't expand their base / sell systems. The PS3 has zilch except for Lair. Wii may be worst of all in terms of software (Pokemon?), but won't stop it from setting all-time records for system sales....

At what price would YOU buy a PS3?

in Sales Discussion on 20 April 2007

    $100 as a Linux set-top box (given it's performance as a general-purpose computer is very low, I wouldn't may much)$200 if it also ran MGS4. ...

PS3 flops in US (March) - what now?

in Sales Discussion on 20 April 2007

Godfather Wii is very surprising: I plan to pick that up as my next game but still have SPM on the plate...But it's nothing a crushing market-share advantage won't fix, which is where the Wii is headed. I suspect Godfather will have a much longer tail on Wii than PS3...     ...

    MC Sales 4/9-4/15

in Sales Discussion on 19 April 2007

Talk of Japanese conformity in this respect is way overblown: the rule in Japan is for a very segmented video-game market: last-gen with the PS2 was an anamoly, as will be this gen' with the Wii.The Japanese bought plenty of Saturns, TurboGrfx, PC-Engines, etc. where the West didn't. ...

    MC Sales 4/9-4/15

in Sales Discussion on 19 April 2007

The death-knell for the PS3, in Japan and globally, will be the impending announcement that FFXIII (the main game) is moving to Wii, and the PS3 game (what's done of it) will be some spin off (that'll also get ported to 360). I've been saying this for months but I'm increasingly sure of it.   ...

Ps 3 price cut coming soon ?

in Sales Discussion on 19 April 2007

That would be a very desperate, costly, and probably not very effective move.If Sony is going to pour more money into saving the PS3, the better option would be to 'buy' hot exclusives... although that's something they probably would have had to go a long time ago (e.g. I can't see something like Assassin's Creed going PS3-only, although that would have been something smart to...

First Person Shooter: Mouse, Gamepad or Wiimote?

in Gaming Discussion on 16 April 2007

I love that w/ the Wii there's no need for atrificially un-steady aim to seem realistic: since your aim is as steady or not as you are naturally. E.g. RE4-type wandering aim isn't needed to make your aim seem human / not robitic. Also the Wii does away with some 'cheap' dual-analogue tricks like scopeing out your shot w/ scoped weapon, then changeing to say a rocket launcher and...

Sales of wii if ninty could meet demand?

Demand is only going to rise as more people are exposed to it. Nintendo really dropped the ball under-estimating demand so badly: the Wii only seems to make sense with insane sales as we're seeing......

First Person Shooter: Mouse, Gamepad or Wiimote?

in Gaming Discussion on 15 April 2007

Littledgn said:If you consider rail type shooters as FPS games... Don't forget light guns. First Person Shooter: Mouse, Gamepad or Wiimote?

in Gaming Discussion on 15 April 2007

Red Steel was more of a free-roaming gallery shooter. The 'reticule box' was very large and the turning slow, but on the upside you could aim freely and quickly around the screen without changing your POV. To compare it to regular first-person shooters on the PC and console misses the point that it's a totally different/unique game (I didn't like it anyways, but I see how some...

First Person Shooter: Mouse, Gamepad or Wiimote?

in Gaming Discussion on 14 April 2007

I've played and enjoyed many PC shooters over the years, but I actually like the mouse least, since it seems too accurate and fast... seems very artificial, like you're not really controlling a character on screen. The gamepad can be done well: Halo2 controls great: also it's nice to be 'lazy' while playing games sometimes which a gamepad is perfect for. Although it can also be...

What would you do if the Wii wins this generation?

in Gaming Discussion on 14 April 2007

I think the Wii will, easily, and I already own a Wii and am happy w/ pick-up-and-play games so that's no problem. I'm still going to pick up a 360 probably late-this-year-early-next since there are a lot of games coming out I'll need to play (RE5, Fable2, etc.) Especially if MGS4 comes to 360 I doubt I'll ever get a PS3, at least not until they're ~$100....
