FF XIII could be the next GTA IV

in Gaming Discussion on 28 August 2008

Final Fantasy is the only major JRPG series in America (at least where installments will sell over 1 million copies). Final Fantasy isn't really that "niche" I would say as most times it manages to sell over 2 million copies. However, Final Fantasy just isn't as big as the Grand Theft Auto series. Ever since Grand Theft Auto III, those games have commonly sold over 6 million copies in the US...

Gnizmo, I get what you're saying about skill, but I also agree that skill isn't the ultimate determining factor. Like I said, I sometimes have a stroke of bad luck. That doesn't mean it comes a whole bunch of time. But I think that the experience some people have varies. There will be times when absolutely nothing happens to me during a race, even while cruising first and there will be times...

If you do a hop at just the right moment, you can avoid a POW. But there are also ways to lessen the effect of it. I'm not sure if it works always, but I've hardly been affected by a POW when I'm using a bike and doing a wheelie. I still get hit, but usually I just spin forward. It's barely noticeable....

in Nintendo Discussion on 04 May 2008

Yeah, usually it does. I don't always have items, though (or I lose it thanks to Lightning, POW or the Blue Shell). I'm good at the game, but I can't control my luck. Sometimes it just... you know... happens. ...

    Mario Kart Wii (cheap gameplay)

in Nintendo Discussion on 04 May 2008

I'm not saying I should be in first place for the whole race or the entire race. I didn't say I find myself in second place, only that I sometimes like to stay in second. I didn't say I never had a good lead or anything like that. I often do. I'm just saying that I seem to get the bad luck of being pummeled by several items at once a little more often than I have in past Mario Kart games. ...

Maybe I'm just having a lot of bad luck with the CPU getting a bunch of items. Lightning and POW seem to be very common when I've got a big lead. Maybe I'm just having some bad luck from time to time....

in Nintendo Discussion on 04 May 2008

Usually a big lead comes around. Then it's fine. Although sometimes it's hard to keep when you're hit by so many items at once. I don't always have the items to block a red shell, though. I love this game, though. Especially going online. It's pretty fun then....

    Mario Kart Wii (cheap gameplay)

in Nintendo Discussion on 04 May 2008

No, 100cc and 50cc are disturbingly easy. Even when the items are unbalanced. 150cc, though, can be murder when you're suddenly pummeled with several items at one time. Like I said, I don't think skill is a factor when it comes to the items the CPU gets. If you get hit with four items back to back to back there's not much you can do. On early laps it's no problem getting back into first. On...

    Mario Kart Wii (cheap gameplay)

in Nintendo Discussion on 04 May 2008

The player's skill has very little to do with what items the CPU gets in Mario Kart. As I said, when I play, it usually isn't that the computer is good, it's that I'm being pummeled with several items at once, that's beyond my control. I don't think it's rubberbanding AI, I think it's just balance issues when it really gets down to it. The Mario Kart Franchise has always given the better, more...

    Mario Kart Wii (cheap gameplay)

in Nintendo Discussion on 04 May 2008

It definitely happens far more often in Mario Kart Wii. It isn't so much that the last place players get all the good stuff, it's that in first place you're apt to be pummeled with so much at a time. This hasn't happened to me in other Mario Karts like it has in Mario Kart Wii. I was in first place, just moments from the goal and got hit with a blue shell, red shell, pow and lightning... all...

    GameStop goes casual in 2008

in Gaming Discussion on 23 January 2008

I don't think most Gamestop employees are assholes. That really depends on what store you go in, and it's unrealistic to judge an entire chain based off just one store. I've never been treated with any sort of distaste in any Gamestop (It has happened to me at a Gamecrazy, but again, doesn't mean EVERY Gamecrazy is like that). As far as reserves go, they HAVE to ask. I've a friend who works...

Super Mario Galaxy bombs in Japan - only sells 130,000 on day 1

fazz said: Hmmm... aren't games supposed to be released on saturdays or sundays? So people won't skip work or school to get the games...Also, bomb is the wrong word. Maybe disappointing or underperforming, but as its thursday and the japanese are @ school/work... I see the sales skyrocketing on the weekend. Actually, this is only true of Dragon Quest as far as I can tell.  When a new...

    What's your IQ?

in General Discussion on 26 September 2007

My IQ is 146. However, IQ doesn't measure how smart you are. It measures how smart you are capable of being. That is why you can meet people with an unusually high IQ yet they aren't that smart. It measures potential. Most IQ tests (especially those found online) are not accurate, though. My IQ could very well be higher than 146 and just the same it could be lower. There is no end to...

    Eternal Sonata Reviews are Up

in Microsoft Discussion on 15 September 2007

Where are people getting this idea that your game has to be over 80% to be good? It's a one to ten scale. If anything, you want your game to hit at least the 70% mark. That's still above average. If your game is in the 60-70% Range, that's what is often defined as average. So you want to be above 70%, not 80%. Think about The Legend of Dragoon and Crash Bandicoot (the first one) game...

    MGS4 ON XBOX 360....HMV CONFIRMS

in Gaming Discussion on 06 August 2007

Nothing's been confirmed, though.  There have been rumors of MGS4 popping up on the XBOX360 ever since the PS3 launched.  This is really nothing new.  Until I hear something from Konami, I'm not going to believe anything just yet.  As far as they've announced, it's still a PS3 exclusive.  ...

Petition to Ban Jack Thompson from Practicing.

in Gaming Discussion on 09 June 2007

Two sentences eh?  Well, here goes: Jack Thompson is a lawyer who is out to ban violent video games, or rather, keep them from getting into the hands of minors; so he has in essence become an enemey of the video game industry because he believes that the governent needs to step in and regulate video games.  He has, in the past, been on campaigns against Grand Theft Auto, Bully,...

PS3 sales - how low will they go before picking up?

in Sales Discussion on 29 May 2007

Despite that the Gamecube sold the least, Nintendo was making a profit on the Gamecube from the get go. Because Nintendo uses technology familiar to everyone and such, and it cost them less to develop a system. The Gamecube may have sold the least, but Nintendo had the most to show from it. In other words, the Gamecube was not a flop. It didn't do as well as the XBOX and PS2, but it was...
