Nintendo Q&A - China, the End of Tie Ratios, 3DS, Switch Online

in Nintendo Discussion on 09 May 2019

What really made me happy is that although, they acknowledge the cloud-streaming technology and don't want to be left behind but that they still see the future of their main business in the integrated hardware and software business. ...

    Nintendo FY2018 results, Switch 34.74M, Software 187.52M

in Nintendo Discussion on 26 April 2019

20 mil. unit sales in a FY seems to be the metric everybody is looking for and everything slightly below it is sniffed at. I don't know if the Nintendo Switch will ever sell 20 mil. in a FY but I do think that it will sell more consistently over a longer period than previous Nintendo home consoles. There are a few hints for that: 1. Nintendo themselves have said that they aim for a longer...

Nikkei- Switch Pro model delayed out of 2019, budget model still scheduled for release this year

in Nintendo Discussion on 20 April 2019

Would you guys be hyped for a Super Switch (Switch 2) if it would be a "real" new system, similar to the Super Nintendo actually being "just" a beefed-up NES, but compatible to all old existing Nintendo Switch games?...

Why bother buying consoles next gen?

in Gaming Discussion on 11 March 2019

I say advertisement and marketing! Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo spending millions in that departments. The general consumer see those advertisements on TV, internet, subscription E-mails, Console News Channel, on good old advertisement posters, at retailers/retailers brochures, at gaming events/exhibitions, etc. That's also a big reason why the general consumer buys them, why he buys any kind of...

Update on Metroid Prime 4: Development restart. Retro Studios + Tanabe now working on it

in Nintendo Discussion on 27 January 2019

I also heard that Federation Force is actually a good game but why did it have to be a Metroid spin-off? It could have been a stand-alone game and everything would be fine. It's not so that the name 'Metroid' guarantees sales. Metroid never sold BIG numbers. Of course they would have need to made a complete stand-alone game in its own universe with it's own story, completely not connected to...

If I think on cut scenes I don't think on Uncharted 4 where you often can put away your joypad for a long time, take it back for a minute, only to put it away for a long time again. (Don't get me wrong, Uncharted 4 is a great...

So... Will Nintendo be able to ship those 20 million Switch units?

in Nintendo Discussion on 06 January 2019

I rethought the situation and I came to the conclusion that 20 mil. will be reached. To sell-through 9 mil. in Q3 is actually thinking moderately (most probably it will be closer to 10 mil.). If they sell-through 9 mil. it means the shipment will be around 11 mil. Regarding Q4 I think the following: Q2 (July to September) had no big releases (Mario Tennis Aces is actually a Q1 release, sold well...

So... Will Nintendo be able to ship those 20 million Switch units?

in Nintendo Discussion on 21 December 2018

I stand by my opinion: If they can do 10 mil. or close to in Q3 (and it seems by now that this will come true), the 20 mil. for FY are possible. To make 5 mil. in Q4 is hard to do but doable. Since New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe comes out in early Jan it now has some weight in favour of meeting the target. On top of that, Dragon Quest Builders 2 came out yesterday in Japan. This game is huge in...

So... Will Nintendo be able to ship those 20 million Switch units?

in Nintendo Discussion on 03 November 2018

I think with the facts with had before the half-year report was released (April - September) nobody could realistically expect much more than 5 mil. I still think it's very hard but still doable to sell 10 mil. in Q3 and 5 mil. in Q1 2019. We shouldn't forget NSBU Deluxe which will be released in Jan. This could very well be a system-seller to some degree. It's a full-fledged 2d Mario-game many...

Wall Street Journal Japan Reports A New Switch Model Will Release In The Second Half Of 2019

in Nintendo Discussion on 07 October 2018

RolStoppable said: zorg1000 said: That sounds a lot like speculation. Because it is. "The current Switch can't handle it," that means nothing more than the game in question won't be ported. What can be infered from such a quote is that a port would be up for consideration if a more powerful Switch existed, but at that point logic has to kick in. Third parties do not make...

Didn't read through the whole thread, so someone probably brought up the following point already: Just implement an option, those who want to have the superior PS4 server play only with PS4 players and those who want to play with those from other platforms too use the other option, it's as simple as that....

2K happy with NBA / WWE’s performance on Switch, will continue support

in Nintendo Discussion on 31 August 2018

That's the basic 3rd party challenge for Nintendo and it goes way back to the N64 when 3rd parties slowly but surely left Nintendo. Many beloved franchises established their userbase on Sony's consoles and later on also on Microsoft's, binding them with gamertag and trophies and even more so with established online friends over the years. This gap of roughly 22 years is hard to fill for Nintendo...

2K happy with NBA / WWE’s performance on Switch, will continue support

in Nintendo Discussion on 29 August 2018

The thing is that the massive success of the Nintendo Switch really took everybody by surprise, even Nintendo themselves. Let's look back: Originally, they predicted to sell 8 mil. in it's first fiscal year (that is April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018, i.e. minus launch month March 3 to March 31, 2017) and they ended with selling 15.05 mil (incl. the 2.76 mil of launch month makes a total of 17.81...

So... Will Nintendo be able to ship those 20 million Switch units?

in Nintendo Discussion on 03 August 2018

I think 10 mil. for Oct - Dec is doable but tough. Roughly 2 mil. were sold from Mar - Jun. This means they have to sell roughly 4 mil. from Jul - Sep and another 4 from Jan - March. Jul - Sep will definitely be weaker, so they probably will only make about 2.5 mil. That means they have to sell roughly 5.5 mil. from Jan - Mar which is tough but possible as SMBU will come out in Dec, it means it...

Wolfenstein 2 on Switch is a good product if you don't care about resolution...

in Nintendo Discussion on 04 July 2018

I for my part am happy that we got such ports at all on Nintendo Switch. More important than resolution, effects and framerates is how well they sell on Nintendo Switch. If they sell good enough we will have other ports in the future. I think Doom and L.A. Noire did ok so far, Skyrim sold over 1 million incl. digital sales, that's a pretty good number. I wonder what Nintendo's business plan...
