Let me guess... a every new "WWII FPS now with co-op mode" is a really fresh and exciting new IP, but Mario Strikers isn't because it uses Mario characters in a sports context, am I right? I mean, it's not like Hitler always uses the same moustache, but Mario sure does!
I'm pretty sure Metroid Prime won't count either (it's the same sexy Samus after all) no matter that it's in FP now. Or Battalion Wars, which is nothing more than the same crap, now in RTS mode. Excite Truck is clearly just the same as Excite Bike (it's got Nitro after all, right?) And stuff like Wario Ware is already 100% minigames, so it definitely won't count (and it has Wario, I mean, what could be worse than that!?)
I'm also positive that Nintendo published games like Eternal Darkness won't count, which obviously doesn't exclude Gears of War as a spanking new MS IP.
Maybe you just don't like Nintendo games, and that's fine by me. But this is what core Nintendo games are. We like it, we'll buy them - the new and the old. And over those last 8 years since you've left (actually those are all Gamecube games, so they represent only 5 years; for 8 I'd have to include some N64 stuff)Â Nintendo did come up with a ton of fresh stuff (besides the Pikmins and Animal Crossings which we love too).
It's doing just the same now. It started with all the big guns for core (Mario, Paper, Smash, Kart, Strikers, Wario, Wars, Zelda, Metroid, Excite), and fresh stuff for casuals, because there was nothing to build on - all this in just 18 months. And since only one or two games per franchise are released every generation, we'll see new IPs in the future, make no doubt about it (after all we already have at the very least Disaster).
True Nintendo fans, those that stuck around for the last 2 generations and those that are coming back, have much to be pleased right now, believe me. I have some 10+ Nintendo games in my buy list right now - in 18 months! And another 10+ third party, which is what market share brings to the table.
Were it any different, and the general populace would be cryin that Nin is suffocating third parties. Well, you just have to make up your minds: either Nin is not releasing any good games at all, or it's suffocating everybody else. You can't have both.
