I can’t believe I am going to do this, but...here’s a defence of COD, at least relative to Metroid.

I prefer Metroid and own no COD games, but let’s be honest: Metroid content is pretty niche while COD picks the very simple and popular subject of warfare.  COD Also has standard, consistent multiplayer and straightforward gameplay while Metroid is usually solo and includes a lot of brain teasers and unusual gameplay like the morph ball.  Metroid’s assets as a hardcore gamer game are holding it back as a mainstream game.

and guess what?  I kind of like it that way.  Maybe with the right gameplay overhaul Metroid could pass 10 million, but I’d argue Nintendo should leave the series somewhat niche rather than totally revamping for 3-5 million more sales.
