I loved the game back then, it was one of my first N64 games. I liked the open level design, cool enemies, crazy weapons and the gore. But it aged poorly. I played the remastered version on PC a few years back and couldn't motivate myself to complete it.

Yeah for its time it was great, I couldn't imagine myself playing those old games now, even remastered, cartoonish games like Mario 64 age better, because they don't need to look realistic, with a nice PC with AA its enough even in 2020, but those old games that were going for realistic style nowadays look horrendous, tech has advanced far too much, most people have nostalgia glasses, go and try one of those games now on a big screen all you're going to see is jaggies everywhere, and faces that look like a huge cube.

I wouldn't even go that far, I tried replaying assassins creed 1 recently and I couldn't do it, animations were terrible, voice acting was terrible, in my mind it was great, but our brains adapt to the new graphics.

That's the reason I only play old cartoonish games, or 2d side scrollers, those age well too. To this day I still play the original NES Mario bros, must have played that game 100 times already, others like Contra, streets of rage, Galaxy etc, those are still playable.
