Yes, Pokemon and AC are not the same game... and? They still use saves files, with both only allowing 1 save file for the longest. Pokemon did drop single files even if it's only because of the Switch's inherent user system. You can have 8 users per Switch, therefore you can 8 save files on a single game compared to the 1 in all prior Pokemon generations which required you to buy more copies of the game for more saves.
I know what shared island means and how that's different from your completely made up and nonsensical idea of a segregated island. We've already seen what the maps look like and they're very much not divided into 8 sections, you can place your house anywhere, and simultaneous multiplayer is a thing. This all means every player can affect every part of the island, obviously as it'd defeat the purpose otherwise. Even if this was true, it's still a terrible design choice that's inferior to the better way I already mentioned.
