That's different. They can launch at $399, see how much they sell and then lower the price to sell to those who did not want to buy at full price and thus win on both fronts.

Whereas if they let an exclusive go, knowing full well that exclusives help a lot to sell a system, they will mathematically lose sales, the price is irrelevant. A PC gamer that could get a PS4 because they really want to try Horizon Zero Dawn may end up not getting the PS4 if they can simply play that game on PC.

I am not super crazy enthused about getting a Switch but I may end up getting one cause I'd love to play Zelda BoTW, Super Mario Odyssey etc. Why? Because I can't play those games on PS4, if I could I would NEVER get a Switch. Nintendo wants to sell Switches therefore Nintendo keeps those games exclusively to the Switch, makes total sense.

Even so, I can totally agree with someone saying: But this way Sony is going to make more money by selling that game to PC gamers. Yes, but they will risk selling less consoles and let me repeat again: Sony clearly said not so long ago that they aim to sell AS MANY PS5's as QUICKLY as possible to as many people as possible and letting exclusives go away like this will DEFINITELY not help towards that goal.

You miss the point. Hardware sale target always fits within a bigger context which is why they never launched the PS4 at $299, they knew they would loose money inspite of selling more physical hardware. If all sony care about is getting hardware into the hand of consumers, the PS5 will be cheap, also the online will be free to give them a competitive edge.... but this is never the sole function of business and inspite of whatever quote you read, I promise you Sony's goal for the next 5 years goes a bit deeper then selling infinite hardware. 

Essentially everyone is overreacting with very little grasp of what sonys intentions are here (IF this rumour turns out to be true)
