Yeah, I don't think the two are really even in direct competition with each other. I love both, but I don't really think of the Prime and 2D Metroid series as the same thing.

It is certainly possible. A lot of rumors say Prime Trilogy HD has been finished for a while and they're sitting on it.

Personally I'm only interested in a new 2.5D Metroid as I already own the Prime Trilogy on Wii and Super on SNES.
