Yeah you might be right. I was hoping the NSMBU port was just to tide over people until they release a brand new reset on the 2D Mario franchise. But even if they do yeah I guess with both the 2d mario port and mario maker in 2019 they would probably wait longer to bring out another 2d mario. Maybe instead it'll just be a couple games from smaller franchises, like Bayonetta 3 + Pikmin or something. I mean I am assuming they're gonna release more than just a single blockbuster (presumably BotW 2) for the holidays considering the new systems are coming out and will garner a lot of the video game excitement of the holidays. I think Bayonetta 3 is actually quite likely for this year. It's been a while since we've seen it and I expect when it finally rears it's head again it'll be just a few months away from release. I think they'll announce it for a September-December release in a spring/e3 direct.
BOTW 2 I'm not expecting to be ready for this year.
I think there'll be some surprises coming that will be both announced and released this year. What exactly they are I'm not sure. Mario & Luigi? Paper Mario? Donkey Kong Country? I expect we'll find out sometime over the next 5 months.
Maybe 3D World 2 is a contender for surprise holiday release.
