Why get lost in a storm of E3 news when you can have all eyes on you during your own conference in Feb/March/April?

Either way we know Sony is not waiting til June to reveal the PS5 so they might as well have a full blowout in Q1 as opposed to curating content specifically for E3 and holding back on the reveal. Third Party wise PS5 games will be st E3 and all other events, so I dont see any major loss for them.

When have the big boys ever been in danger of getting lost in the storm of E3?

Even as an avid follower of E3, many games or details get lost amongst of all of the noise of E3. If you think about news headlines, youtube coverage etc attention is obviously going to be diluted even if it seems like the big 3 always getting the most of it. They would get even more by themselves. PS5 will make headlines and grab attention regardless of when its shown off, so why not do it in an opportunity where it can be the heart of all media (traditional and social) coverage. This applies to the console, its features, its games and so on.

If sony go all out in their own events and start with a bang that leaves little for an E3, a show where whats playable on the floor isn't the focus but instead the streamed conferences are. I'd argue a no show is better then a show of repeated content where everyone will be like Microsoft beat Sony or whatever. But the real reason for the why they're not there could be political (as in to pressure E3 into adapting to what they want from it)
