https://www.pcgamer.com/vvvvvv-goes-open-source-for-its-10-year-anniversary/
VVVVVV, Terry Cavanagh's gravity-flipping platformer, is a decade old, and to mark the occasion Cavanagh has decided to make it open source. The news was revealed at AGDQ today, and you can get your hands on the source code now via GitHub.

Hop in your flying car and hunt down bounties in Blue Drifter
https://www.pcgamer.com/hop-in-your-flying-car-and-hunt-down-bounties-in-blue-drifter/
Sokpop Collective is a prolific developer of tiny games, releasing a whopping two of its wee experiments every month. The latest, appearing on itch.io yesterday, is the stylish Blue Drifter, a bounty hunting game set on a miserable, wet planet.

The White Door is a new, more 'personal' Rusty Lake game about memories and color
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-white-door-is-a-new-more-personal-rusty-lake-game-about-memories-and-color/
The Rusty Lake games, very loosely speaking, are point-and-click adventures, but it's closer to the mark to describe them as strange, interactive narrative experiences, with hypnotic music, sedate narration, and an aura of death and menace hanging over everything. (...)
A new game was added to the series yesterday called The White Door, and while it looks and sounds a lot like previous Rusty Lake games, the developers say that it's actually quite different from their previous releases, mechanically and in the more "personal" story it tells about a man named Robert, an employee at a bird seed company (which will likely prove relevant in some odd way) who's been institutionalized for... some reason.

Bungie is raising funds for Australian firefighters with a limited-edition Destiny 2 T-shirt
https://www.pcgamer.com/bungie-is-raising-funds-for-australian-firefighters-with-a-limited-edition-destiny-2-t-shirt/
In yesterday's This Week at Bungie update, the Destiny 2 studio revealed plans to raise funds to support firefighters and conservation efforts through the sale of a limited-edition t-shirt. The shirt will be available for pre-order on the Bungie Store from January 16 until the weekly reset at 9 am PT/12 pm ET on February 18. Bungie is still working on the design, but said that a "preview" will be shared early next week; anyone who purchases the shirt will also get a code for the Star Light, Star Bright emblem.

Fantasy air combat game The Falconeer is looking better and better in new teasers
https://www.pcgamer.com/fantasy-air-combat-game-the-falconeer-is-looking-better-and-better-in-new-teasers/
Who wants to ride a giant bird into battle, soaring into fantasy aerial dogfights against dragons, airships, and whatever a razor beetle is? I do, and so do you probably. We last saw some of indie game The Falconeer last year after Gamescom, but it has come a ways since then and only looks better.

GTA 4 is no longer being sold on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/gta-4-is-no-longer-being-sold-on-steam/
Grand Theft Auto 4's Steam page no longer lets you buy the game, though there's no explanation why. GTA Vice City did vanish from the marketplace briefly back in 2012 due to a copyright claim over its inclusion of the song Wanna Be Startin' Something by Michael Jackson, but Rockstar have been more on the ball with licencing issues since then. As recently as 2018, GTA 4 was patched to replace several songs from Vladivostok FM in advance of their licences expiring.

Legends of Runeterra, the League of Legends card game, begins open beta testing next week
https://www.pcgamer.com/legends-of-runeterra-the-league-of-legends-card-game-begins-open-beta-next-week/
We described Riot's League of Legends-based card battler Legends of Runeterra last October as having "more than a passing resemblance to Hearthstone and Artifact," while still being more than a straight-up clone of either. A few lucky followers have been able to try it for themselves in previous "preview patches," but on January 24 the game will become available to everyone with the start of the open beta.

First-person puzzler of lights and killer shadows, Lightmatter, releases this week
https://www.pcgamer.com/first-person-puzzler-of-lights-and-killer-shadows-lightmatter-releases-this-week/
Lightmatter is a devious-looking first person puzzle game set to release on January 15th where you manipulate light sources to get from point A to point B—mostly due to all the flesh-eating shadows in between you and the exits from any given room. This is definitely one for fans of Antichamber, The Talos Principle, Manifold Garden, or Portal. It has that story-driven twist, too, with a primary antagonist by voice actor David Bateson—that’s Agent 47 to the unfamiliar. I like how it looks—an attractive aesthetic with a thick-lined, high-contrast art style that really suits it and looks smooth in play.

AI War 2 has a huge new update making strategy’s toughest AI even harder
https://www.pcgamer.com/ai-war-2-has-a-huge-new-update-making-strategys-toughest-ai-even-harder/
Space grand strategy-RTS hybrid AI War 2 has a new patch which cranks up the difficulty by making the vicious AI even more vicious with stronger defenses and increased tactical acuity. With patch notes at nearly 15k words the 1.3 update, per the developers, “almost feels like a sequel in some ways, which is how we like it.” AI War 2 is the sequel to AI War: Fleet Command, a game with what is probably the most fiendishly clever and competitive AI opponents ever in a strategy game. AI War 2 is just as intense, and as the name implies the highlight of the series is just how good the AI opponent is.

The Borderlands 3 Takedown at Maliwan Blacksite event has been moved back
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-borderlands-3-takedown-at-maliwan-blacksite-event-has-been-moved-back/
Takedown at Maliwan Blacksite is an endgame raid in Borderlands 3 that's balanced for a full party of four maximum-level Vault Hunters. But for a limited time, it'll be set to scale down for your party size—though not your level. That means you'll be able to take it on with a small group or even solo, but even then you should be level 50 before you give it a shot. The rewards stay the same, so it'll be a good time for looting.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Outback Pack profits will be used for Australian wildfire relief
https://www.pcgamer.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfares-outback-pack-profits-will-be-used-for-australian-wildfire-relief/
Infinity Ward has joined a growing number of developers and publishers raising awareness about Australia's wildfire crisis, an annual problem that has been made all the more devastating this season thanks to climate change. The studio has rebranded some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare DLC, the profits from which will be donated to support those affected by the fires.

https://www.pcgamer.com/explore-a-cake-filled-underworld-in-free-metroidvania-satan-loves-cake/
In a cartoonish underworld, Satan spends his days stuffing cake into his mouth, while a demonic version of The Great British Bake-Off plays on the TV. And then, in one moment, all the cake is gone. So, he has to get up and find some, filling his belly with treats that spew from defeated enemies.
