New Top Steam Game: CS:GO player counts have officially overtaken Dota 2

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has now reliably pushed past Dota 2’s peak and average player counts, making the shooter the more popular of Valve’s big online games and the top game on Steam. For December 2019, CS:GO posted peak users of 767,000 while Dota 2 reached nearly 628,000. Though CS:GO started to pull ahead of Dota 2 last year, CS:GO has now claimed the top spot for four months in a row—it’s not a fluke, but a trend, and we can officially pass the symbolic crown. Dota 2’s all-time player peak was 1.2 million in January 2015, with a return to that number in January and February 2016. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s all-time peak player count was 850,000 in March 2016. Both have been enduringly popular games with multiple famous eSports moments. CS:GO in particular has produced many amazing plays over the past decade.

Dota Underlords, Valve's Early Access auto battler, has shed most of its players in the six months since it launched on Steam. In June, it peaked with more than 200,000 people playing concurrently, according to Steam Charts, but in the last day it's had fewer than 15,000.
Spotted by Reddit user SharkyIzrod, the average player number has dwindled to just over 11,000, with peak players below 20,000. When Underlords launched, auto battlers seemed like the thing to watch, but interest in the genre as a whole seems to have sunk considerably since.

The Epic Games Store began giving away weekly free games in May to mark its first big sale, a process it extended in June to the end of 2019. It wrapped up the year in a big way, with 12 daily giveaways. Then 2020 rolled around, and we got three more free games.
And that's not the end of the ride either. Darksiders, Darksiders 2, and Steep are still free for now, but once January 9 arrives, Sundered: Eldritch Edition will take their place. Sundered is a hand-drawn Metroidvania developed by Jotun studio Thunder Lotus, in which players can either resist or embrace ancient Eldritch powers. That sort of thing rarely comes without a price, and, oh yes, here it is: "At the cost of your humanity."

NVIDIA GeForce 441.87 WHQL CES 2020 driver released, Wolfenstein: Youngblood RTX Patch coming this week

NVIDIA has released a new major driver for its graphics cards. According to the release, the NVIDIA GeForce 441.87 WHQL driver, also known as CES 2020 driver, adds official support for Wolfenstein: Youngblood’s real-time ray tracing effects.
MachineGames will release the RTX patch for Wolfenstein: Youngblood later this week. The team will be using Ray Tracing in order to enhance the game’s reflections. Furthermore, the game will support DLSS. Once the patch is out, we’ll be sure to benchmark both RTX and DLSS.
The NVIDIA GeForce 441.87 WHQL driver also introduces Variable Rate Super Sampling. Variable Rate Super Sampling (VRSS) is a new technique to improve image quality in VR games which uses NVIDIA Variable Rate Shading (VRS) to dynamically apply up to 8x super sampling to the center of the VR display when GPU headroom is available.
Moreover, NVIDIA introduced a new Maximum Framerate Setting into the NVIDIA Control Panel. Use the maximum frame rate setting to set the max framerate a 3D application or game can render.
Last but not least, this driver comes with an improved Image Sharpening, as well as new Freestyle Filters.

This mod introduces a high-quality 3D model of Jill Valentine to Resident Evil 2 Remake

Back in October 2019, we informed you about a mod that allowed you to play as Jill Valentine in Resident Evil 2 Remake. That mod was based on the Resident Evil Remake model of Jill and while it looked really cool, there is a new mod in town. WallStaringCat has created this new custom 3D model for Jill that you can download right now.
WallStaringCat has created Jill’s body, clothing, face, radio, holster, Samurai Edge Pistol, beret and hair. The modder used Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter and 3DS Max in order to create this model.
Now as with all of the character swap mods, Jill’s rig, animations, eyes, eyelashes, eyebrows and mouth are from the base game’s Claire model.

Roenaxx has released a brand new version of his “Exotic Arsenal – Weapon DLC” mod for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This mod adds 55 unique bladed weapons to the game which can be crafted, looted and bought.
Going into more details, the mod adds 28 steel and 27 silver weapons. The weapons range from daggers to polearms and a whole host of other practical fantasy blades.

This 3.5GB HD Texture Pack for Devil May Cry 3 upscales all of its textures, available for download

Modder ‘pepodmc’ has released a must-have HD Texture Pack for Devil May Cry 3 HD Collection. The modder used AI techniques in order to improve and overhaul all of the game’s textures. This pack is 3.5GB in size and is available for download.
In some situations, the modder used entirely new textures using ones from Devil May Cry 4. Moreover, some rooms can look better than others, and sometimes the visual improvements are not that great. Still, the newly improved textures have less noise and are of a higher quality than those found in the vanilla version.
However, we should also note that there are some changes in terms of color saturation, fog layer and brightness in some scenes. For the most part, though, the modder has tried to stay true to the game’s aesthetics.

Reddit’s member ‘zomprd‘ is currently working on an AI-enhanced HD Texture Pack for Diablo 2. The modder has so far extracted and upscaled the textures from the Rogue Encampment, and shared some screenshots. Thus, these screenshots will give you an idea of what a faithful Diablo 2 Remaster could have looked like.
The modder aims to also upscale some characters, monsters, items and other textures in the next few days. Then, he plans to create a web application – a prototype, a Diablo 2 demo – which uses these upscaled textures. Unfortunately though, and after releasing this demo, the modder does not plan to release a HD Texture Pack for the base game.

Styx has released a remake of Mortal Kombat Anthology. Mortal Kombat Anthology is a MUGEN MK game, and its new Remake comes with all the features and stuff from the Season 2 Final of the new MKP project.
Similarly to the latest version of Mortal Kombat Project, Mortal Kombat Anthology Remake features over 100 classic fighters. Moreover, it comes with one hell of stages, multiple finishing moves, and more.

It’s been a while since our last look on Grand Theft Auto 4, right? Well, it appears that a new graphics overhaul mod is under development, aiming to improve the game’s visuals. This mod is called Project RevIVe and you can find below some screenshots from it.
Created by BisonSales, Project RevIVe aims to enhance the game’s graphics. The modder aims to create new game objects and textures. Furthermore, the modder will try to fix and improve the game’s performance.
For instance, iCEnhancer creator, Hayssam Keilany, claims that some areas saw a 20fps performance increase. What’s really interesting here is that these scenes not only run better, but also look better than before.

Grand Theft Auto and Vice City fans, here is something really special for you today. Modder ‘lunchxbles’ has released Vice Cry: Remastered for Grand Theft Auto 5. As its title suggests, this is a full port of Vice Cry to Grand Theft Auto V, running as a DLC.
This DLC-sized mod features MLO interiors, bump mapped roads and various buildings, as well as 3D neon models. It also comes with spec mapped windows for proper reflections, brand new models and textures and working traffic lights.
Furthermore, Vice City Remastered has Material Accuracy (no more broken alphas) and full path and Navmesh support. It also has Instanced Grass, SLOD’s with proper Water Reflection and Car Generators.

Mafia 2 gets a 2020 graphics overhaul mod that is available for download

QTmodz has released a new graphics overhaul mod for Mafia 2. This mod reworks the game’s Weathers, improves its Lighting system, and brings some new detailed textures. It also brings some new camera viewpoints.
Going into more details, the Old Time Reality mod features new pavement, dirt, veg and road textures for all seasons. It also have new Street lights, Sun flares and Car Coronas. As said, the mod also improves the game’s weather system, as well as its lighting system.
It’s also worth noting that the mod also brings some gameplay tweaks and improvements. For instance, it changes the FOV and allows players to collect more ammo. Weapons can also hold more ammo, and the police is more random.

As you may already know, an indie team is currently working on a remake of Dino Crisis in Unreal Engine 4. However, there is also another project that all Dino Crisis purists fans will appreciate. This project, called Dino Crisis Rebirth, aims to remaster the original PC version for modern-day PC systems.
Developed by Gemini, Dino Crisis Rebirth looks really promising and will release soon. My guess is that its creator targets a 2020 release. Gemini has also released a new gameplay video, showcasing the new DirectX 9 renderer that the game now uses.

Cinder Interactive Arts has released a new January 2020 update video for TimeSplitters Rewind. TimeSplitters Rewind is a standalone multiplayer game that is being developed by fans of the original Timesplitters series. The game will feature characters, maps, and weapons from all three games completely rebuilt.

Fallout 4 New Vegas is a total conversion mod that aims to bring the entire map of Fallout: New Vegas to Fallout 4. The mod aims to feature all of the original quests, story and content. It will also have additional gameplay elements and systems from the new and improved engine.

Ragnarok Game has announced that it has acquired the source code for Rune 2. Rune 2 came out in November 2019 and Human Head Studios closed its doors the moment the game got released. Thankfully, though, Ragnarok Game will try to improve it as it’s already working on its first patch.
