I cringe wherever I see it. That's how I saw Rey in the first two films and really a lot of comic characters these days. They want to create a strong role model but end up with "Despite being black, he's the smartest and most capable!" or "I bet you didn't expect a woman to be the most powerful, did ya!" Being treated BETTER than everyone else is sometimes worse than being treated the same as everyone else...if that makes sense. |
It does make sense yes because the BETTER part about it is just pretence and actually it is just being treated differently than normal.
