I've been predicting Sony will completely loose Japan for a few years now. It looks very likely that PS4 will fail to match PS3's sales totals in the country, even with its much improved library, and large scale success globaly. 

With the announcement that they will not be developing another Mobile PlayStation product going forward, I believe that will seal their fate in Japan. I expect PlayStation 5 to be even more suited to the US and EU markets, while Sony will begin to loose exclusivity and potentially even multiplatform support of some prominent Japanese titles. There is a very real possibility that PS5 could fail to even reach 5 Million units in Japan. 

The sad thing about it is they have all the tech they need to make a PlayStation 5 Phone that could completely change their fate in Japan. Running an 8 Core/16 Thread Ryzen Mobile Chip and a Navi Mobile Chip, they could have complete unity across both Home and Mobile. With full access to the entire PlayStation catalog, I don't think it would be to far fetched to see them sell 15 - 20 Million or more PlayStation 5 Phones in Japan. 

Unfortunately, it appears that Sony is playing an extremely dangerous game, betting the entire company on the success of PlayStation 5 alone. As successful as the PS4 has been, the PlayStation ecosystem has actually shrunk over the last 10 years. It is going to be very interesting times going forward.
