It probably helped but the main driver was the $199 360+Kinect bundle.

Yep.  Looked back at those ads to find his answer.  I'll just add that stores were also giving away $50-$100 gift cards away with select 360 bundles, including the bundle you mentioned, effectively making it $149 and $299 for the more expensive bundle.
