My issue too, I've never played a Flight Sim, with this one I just want to casually fly over Earth looking at all the destinations but Idk how technical it's going to be, I like you, probably wouldn't get the plane off the ground. |
Since it's coming to xbox consoles, there will be an option to fly with a controller. That means you likely don't have to worry about all the technical stuff. You didn't really have to with previous flight simulators. Start on runway (or even in the air) full throttle and go. The landings are the tricky part yet not all that difficult either. Line up with the runway on the gps screen, extend flaps, lower gear, reduce power, air brakes. There's hundreds of controls in the cockpit you never need to touch.
But you can go into full sim mind setting, navigate on instruments, tune the radio to ask for landing permission etc, manage fuel mixture, turn on mechanical failures and try emergency landings / engine restarts etc. Yet if you simply want to enjoy the view, take off, set a destination on the gps, desired height and turn on auto pilot. Planes can land themselves nowadays, auto landing should be in the game as well.
Thinking back of my FS days, most of the time I navigated by autopilot exploring the world. Change the heading, height etc, enjoy the views, only using the flight stick for landings and take offs or to fly through the grand canyon / other valleys. The only key board keys I used were g for landing gear, f for flaps, b for air brakes and . for wheel brakes / parking brake. I had way more buttons mapped to views and looking around than for operating the planes :) Of course on PC you had the mouse to operate all the controls for autopilot and gps in the virtual cockpit. I never read a manual or anything, simply experimented by clicking buttons in the virtual cockpit. The fun way to learn.
