Yeah I think that aspect would impact this a lot, for me 2 was the very peak of things because they had got the gameplay down in the first game and number 2 was all about expanding that universe and showing us more a reason to care about what was going on, kinda the same as how Halo one is more gameplay focused and Halo2 breaks out the big epic story stuff.
Online and competitive multiplayers are something that is probably getting better as the games move up the numbers just because online matchmaking and the types are going to be getting better and more refined as that genre kinda evolves on other titles as well as gears, but then I have never played gears online other than to play it 2 player co-op I mean, I never attacked anyone online that wasn't a pve enemy so for me that aspect of the game means nothing.
