All we allowed is them to import it after they already had the permits etc to hunt/kill it in the first place. Our decision had absolutely ZERO impact on the rhino population as the same number of animals would have been killed regardless of this decision.

But by allowing this they'll only encourage more of America's scummiest to do the same, killing more endangered animals just for the hell of it.

That is exactly the point. They WANT and they NEED rich Americans to go there and shoot a couple of animals. Or to say it with the words of the wildlife protection service:

"“Legal, well-regulated hunting as part of a sound management program can benefit the conservation of certain species by providing incentives to local communities to conserve the species and by putting much-needed revenue back into conservation,” said Laury Parramore, spokeswoman for the Fish and Wildlife Service."

They're killing a handful of animals to save hundreds of them. It's similar to the regular practice of legal domestic hunters that kill game to preserve the population. Feel free to donate a few millions from your own money so that they're not dependent on hunting anymore.
