Depends on the kind of game. I've spent over 2000€ on Rocket League and it was definitely worth it.
The dream game that is not RL would be a new Gothic game that is bigger than all the previous games, retains all the things that made the games great while ironing out the jankiness. I'd pay up to 1000€ for it because I already know I will spend at least 1000h with it.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
