People are being intentionally obtuse when it comes to these Trump tweets. If it was an attack on progressivism why not Bernie or Warren, if it was an attack on democrats as a whole why not pelosi or Schumer? If the tweet wasn't meant to be at least vaguely racist or xenophobic then why would he use a traditionally xenophobic talking point when talking about 4 progressive women of colour? Out of all the potential targets and all of the ways he could have framed the argument why else would he go about it in this way

But if you ignore all logic and reason you can kind of twist it into something not racist, and really that is all it takes for me these days.

The pocket change I give to homeless sometimes is a tiny amount compared to what I make but it might mean the world to them.

Charity can still be selfish even if it means helping someone else. Not everything is a zero sum game (despite Trump's apparent beliefs). If you are giving in order to benefit yourself (for example, from all of the people who rush to your aid and say "Yeah, but he donated to charity"), it can still be selfish.

As a bit of a side note, here is a bit from the bible:

41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
