I cannot speak about the U.S. but in my country tickets are actually more expensive today than they were back then. I vividly remember paying the equivalent of $4.86 to watch Avatar in 3D back then, and just today I paid $5 to watch Far From Home in 2D.

You premise is correct though, it’s way more expensive now than when Avatar was out.
