How long would you prefer a console lifespan to last before replacement?

For my backlog's sake I prefer 5-6 year gens. New generations have slow starts, so I can catch up when they announce new consoles. For game quality, 7-8 year gens are much better, which in turn bolsters my backlog...

I guess I will have to choose the 7-8 for better games.
