I agree completely. What many people don't seem to grasp is the impact as a game SMB had on other games. A whole genre defined and spearheaded by this one game, inspiring many others. For example, when SMB3 came out, John Carmack from ID wanted to see if he could make a game with scrolling levels (platformers were confined to screen by screen on computers until then) and he remade SMB3 on the computer. Eventually this development resulted in Wolfenstein, Doom etc. games that were very influential in their own right.
