Yeah, I can see that, but Sanders is often perceived (and probably rightfully so) as the progressive star. It seems like a good strategy for Gillibrand to clear up, that she is similarly progressive. And explaining policy is time-consuming. By saying "Senator Sanders and I" she pretty much and fast clears up where she stands. And by the way: last night I felt like she defended Sanders policies more energetic, than he himself did.

Kind of risky by tossing another contenders name in all of your achievements or viewpoints. Why should one vote for her instead of Sanders.
