"Episodic" while not necessarily wrong by definition associates it with the more commonly referred to "Episodic" games, Walking Dead, Resident Evil Revelations 2, Life is Strange. Comparing FFVII Remake to being just an "Episode" when it is completely incomparable to these "Episodes" could be misleading. Typically each episode of an episodic game is around 2 hours long. FFVII Remake will be longer than an entire season of your usual episodic game.

I think the connotations people take from calling the game episodic is the issue. Star Wars is episodic, is it any lesser because of it? If Square had said it was going to be a trilogy, rather than it was going to be "episodic" I think the reaction wouldn't have been the same as it is.

I think I and many others use episodic because that was the term news media used at the start. Parts is the better correct term but that doesn't mean it's any real different as it is still taking a single game and splitting it into parts (or episodes as we know the story). This isn't like other trilogies where it's one game which through success spawns 2 sequels of varying success, it was 1 game 23 years ago which now is being divided up for (what many fans feel) is cash.

Episodic games are usually 1 story over many parts to form a complete game. This is the same, 1 story over many parts to form a complete game. Do people think the gameplay will change like it did with ME series or Dragon Age or even FF13 and it's 2 sequels? Not really the same game if it does.

Hmm, pie.
