In slightly unrelated news, I am astounded by how much Avatar money made and how little pop cultural impact it had. The only time people ever speak of it is for sales numbers. It was truly just a graphics hype. I don't expect its sequels to come close to its numbers.
Yeah, Avatar's complete inability to impact the cultural zeitgeist is telling. The movie just isn't remembered fondly. It had a successful gimmick (3D) and was promptly forgotten by the masses. I swear, The Sandlot is more culturally relevant if t-shirt polls are anything to go by.
